  • ABOUT HYENA COMPUTER SOFTWARE

Hyena The ACADS-BSG computer program HYENA can be used to analyse automatic fire sprinkler systems with a simple end, side or centre fed configuration or more complicated looped and gridded systems. It may also be used to analyse fire hydrant and hose reel installations or combined sprinkler, hydrant and/or hose reel systems or any other systems where the discharges can be represented by a k factor and minimum flow. With a given sized network the program performs a complete hydraulic analysis determining the water flow in, and pressure drop though, each pipe in the entered network taking account of all fittings entered by the user. The main features of the program are:-

the longhand method of input of sprinkler system the use of the GRID commands Expanding the Grid Viewing and printing the results

AutoHYENA The computer program AutoHYENA enables a user to draw a sprinkler or hydrant system in AutoCAD in such a way that an input data file can be generated ready for use by the fire sprinkler and hydrant system analysis program HYENA. The layout is entered as a line diagram on AutoCAD and all the pipe fittings, sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, etc., are added with the appropriate technical data (discharge, k factor, etc) entered as symbol attributes. AutoHYENA then extracts the pipe lengths and other data to generate an input data file for HYENA which is then run to perform the hydraulic calculations. The user can then generate (on a separate set of layers) a final layout drawing with specific sprinkler & hydrant symbols (blocks) included. A capability is provided for users to use their own symbols on this final drawing. The program was developed under contract to ACADS by MicroCAD, who are a registered distributor of AutoCAD located in Melbourne.

  • COURSE LEADERS PROFILE Murray Mason, Principal Engineer and Director of ACADS-BSG Pty Ltd, Australia Mr Mason is a Chartered Professional Engineer with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science (Noise & Vibration). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Fellow of AIRAH, (the Australian Institute of Refrigeration Air Conditioning & Heating) and a Fellow of AIE (the Australian Institute of Energy).

Murray is a Director of ACADS-BSG Pty Ltd a company that develops, distributes and supports a comprehensive range of building services software including HYENA a sprinkler and hydrant design program and AutoHYENA an interface between AutoCAD and HYENA. In 1981 Murray was involved in the acquisition of a sprinkler design program by ACADS-BSG for use by consultants and contractors in Australia culminating in the acquisition of the program SPRINK which was originally developed in Vancouver Canada and is now called HYENA.

Murray has had 48 years experience in the air conditioning and building services industry including 22 years working with the Federal Governments Construction Authority on numerous projects including the building services for Tullamarine Airport, Electronic Telephone Exchangers, RAAF, Army & Navy Buildings and Federal Government Offices and 26 years with ACADS-BSG. He has presented numerous papers in Australia for AIRAH and other similar organizations, and overseas and lecturers on occasions at Australian Universities. He is a keen sportsman and is actively involved in tennis, basketball and skin diving.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND Authority having jurisdiction, Design & Project Engineers, Professional Engineers, Architects, Registered Inspectors, Fire Safety Engineers, Fire Officers, Fire Safety Managers, Fire Protection System Installers, Contractors, Facilities Management Professionals, Insurance Underwriters, Safety Officers and Owners/Maintenance Mangers of Commercial Buildings/Industrial Installations, etc.

HOW YOU BENEFIT FROM THE WORKSOP Learn to use hyena software for fully hydraulic calculations for authority submission Full hydraulic calculations are required for Low Hazard and High Hazard Design Classification. This program is fully compatible with CP 52 Optimize pipe work design using computer based hydraulic calculations Enhance design flexibility Expedite review of design option Improve productivity by reducing drafting time

All participants are required to bring along their own laptops. (Windows-based OS, processing speed at least 1 GHz with 256 MB Sdram and minimum 5 GB of hard disk free space). The Hyena software will be loaded onto your computer and can be used only for the duration of the course. The software can be purchased during the course at a preferential rate to be announced later.
