HVPS Gardening Project

The children at HVPS in their peer-support groups have been given a section of our garden to work with. We are lucky enough to have a fabulous new school, and even though our garden has some great foundations, there is quite a bit of work to do, and to continue! Each group was given a worksheet to complete, and photos were taken of the groups and their garden space. To provide a snapshot of where they are at, please take a look at the following pages…….

Group 1:

Garden Space: Between the Art Room and the car park

Our Plan: To pull out weeds

What we need:

1. Pebbles around plants 2. Strawberry plants & grapevine 3. More mulch 4. Gloves 5. Shovels 6. Red hot poker plant

Group 2:

Garden Space: The triangle of garden next to the shed and the big playground

Our Plan: Add more plants, pull out weeds, put more soil and bark chips in, water the plants, snip dead parts off, remove one step (leaving one step in)and install a sign that says “Please do not walk on the plants”

What we need:

1. Soil 2. Shovels 3. Gloves 4. Watering can or buckets 5. Snippers 6. Plants/seeds 7. Sign – the group will make

Group 3:

Garden Space: Amphitheatre

Our Plan: Plant fruit trees

What we need:

1. Fruit Trees - 3 x apple saplings, 1 x lemon tree, 6 x orange trees

Group 4:

Garden Space: Rose Garden – between the little playground and the footpath

Our Plan: Plant more plants and roses

What we need:

1. Roses 2. Shovel 3. Soil 4. Pitch fork 5. Gloves 6. Wheelbarrow

Group 5:

Garden Space: Front gate and side of the oval

Our Plan: To put a shade tree in the middle, and plant flowers and put mint around the outskirts. Rake off leaves from the garden and put a bird bath next to the foot path at the front.

What we need:

1. Rakes 2. Shade Tree 3. Mint 4. Flowers (red, white, pink, yellow) (Roses) 5. Bird Bath 6. Shovels 7. Soil 8. Grasses to match 9. Slate rocks

Garden Space: Old Sandpit

Our Plan: Dig sand out, fill with soil, fertilise soil, plant all sorts of herbs and flowers, let grow and tend to every week. ?where to put sand?

Garden Space: The new herb garden near the deck

Our Plan: We would like to make it a beautiful herb garden. We want to dig out all the rocks and clay and replace it with soil to plan the plants.

What we need:
