Our logo was due for a refresh. The old multicoloured bubbled font has served us well over the decades. We thought it pertinent that with the acquisition, it was the right time for all three companies to have a new look together.

Our objective was to create the HP as a modern alternative to the full spelling and a symbol that reflected our vision and the personality of our strategy.

Our Branches and region that Hutcheon and Pearce now covers is coverted by three river systems: the Lachlan to the north, Murrumbidgee through the centre and the Murray to the South. All rivers come to a point at the NSW and Victorian border. The rays of blue in the logo symbol reflect the river patterns of our region.

While our colour choices may be of contention with some as to why are we not green and yellow - why do we have to be green and yellow? Simply, we like blue and yellow. Our new colour scheme stands out from the John Deere logo in the new relationship branding below.

Coupled with the logo change, we refreshed our uniforms. Our new logo stands out on the navy jumpers, green polos and bright striped green and white shirts. Similarly, our Service teams are all highly visible in green and very fluro yellow workwear with the new logo.

Our new lookJacqueline Negline-Smyth - Human Resources Manager

Welcome to our first edition of High Performance

It has been a very busy few months here at Hutcheon and Pearce. It started in June with an overdue and necessary restructure from a family trust, (which we have operated under for as long as I can find records for) into a company, in preparation for the acquisition of the John Deere dealerships in Griffith, Lake Cargelligo, Finley, Coleambally and Narrandera. We completed this acquisition on the 19th August.

These acquisitions will provide Hutcheon and Pearce with the scale and efficiencies to support our customers now and into the future, particularly in terms of providing world

class technology solutions for our world class Australian farmers.

With the addition of the new locations, we thought it was a good time to freshen up our company Logo and uniforms. You will see more of the new logo as we continue to update buildings, vehicles, signs and stationary over the next few months. You will learn the story behind the logo in this edition of High Performance written above.

Finally, I want to thank all our staff for their hard work through the acquisition, and thank all our new and existing customers for their ongoing support! I hope you all find value and enjoyment from this edition of High Performance.

Used Machine of the Month Stuart Robertson - Group Used Sales Manager

2008 T6010 (100Hp) New Holland tractor with a New Holland:• AP 3 function loader • 2150MM Bucket, Good Tyres all around, • 16 speed Powershift with Hi and Low range, • 2 x rear remotes, • training seat, • Three point linkage and PTO, • Panorama roof for better vision of loader when raised, A tidy tractor and well worth an inspection.Currently Located in our ALBURY Branch... $59,000 inc GST

Used equipment sales have been quiet this year and this is mainly due to new products being readily available and interest rates remaining low, given this most dealers have had to meet the used market with value for money machines.

As the used market is currently buyer driven, Hutcheon and Pearce have reduced the price of this quality New Holland T6010 from $64000 down to $59,000 with a 3.85% finance rate to approved purchasers.

We also have a good range of value used equipment around our 11 locations and if you are after something we do not have, please mention your requirements to one of our many experienced sales representatives and they will do their best to source the machines you need.

H&P TECSight® - Technology and Agronomic SupportAndrew Watt - TECSight Manager In October 2011, Hutcheon and Pearce formed a new technology based department called TECSight®. The Hutcheon and Pearce TECSight® department was developed with the key aim of supporting our customers current and future machine technology and agronomic needs. It is a combination of your equipment, our technology offerings and the remote support services we can provide you to minimise your downtime, reduce your risks and improve your productivity. Since its inception, TECSight® now employee 8 full time staff to support your technology and agronomic needs.

Our key services are based around the following areas:

• Greenstar GPS and guidance support

• Machine Optimisation and remote JDLink™ code/alert monitoring

• Ag Decision Support through data accuracy assurance, data cleansing and data sharing services

• Logistics Optimisation through data analysis, advice and real time monitoring.

What is the most commonly asked question that I am asked as the Group Sales Manager of Hutcheon and Pearce? It has to be about our inventory and how much product we need to hold.

Apart from our CCE products (lawn care) we order all of our John Deere products directly from the factories on a forward order basis. The delivery times for these products range from 5 months when seasonal demand is low up to 12 months when demand is high. So the question remains…how can we look that far ahead and ensure we have enough product without being overstocked?

This is not a exact science, it is a combination of many things including previous sales, market conditions, the factory availability and demand from other dealers.

So how do we make sure we have got it right and we can accommodate our customer’s machinery requirements? Well the answers sit with our sales team, and their ability to work and communicate with our clients to forward order products in advance. By working with our clients on a forward order basis, we can deliver a number of key points of value.

1. We can build a product to the exact requirements, for example we can supply the right size tyres or tracks for a particular application to increase our machine performance.

2. We can offer the best value proposition, building the machine to your requirements saves you money when you look over the life of the machine; this is what counts.

I would like to say a big thank you to the sales team for all the hard work in recent months achieving a solid bank of forward orders. My only current concern is the factory availability for products pre sowing 2015. My suggestion would be to secure these opportunities early in particular American Waterloo Tractors ( 7R, 8R and 9R ) to avoid disappointment.

We also currently have a great opportunity with a large selection of quality used Harvesters and Platforms. I have never seen a better selection of machines available for sale. Our financing rates on used machines with John Deere Finance are also at a all time low. I am sure this selection will not last long, with a number of machines being sold over the past month.

In summary thanks to all staff, in all departments, who in turn provide a complete service to all of our customers. This combined approach is our key to our mutual success. And to our clients thank you for your business and we look forward to providing you all with a greater level of customer support and optimization in the future.

Parts NewsVincent Leary - Group Parts Manager

One of the added services the parts department have implemented into some of our larger stores, is a dedicated parts person to service the workshop needs.

We feel it has lifted the communication between the departments .

With one person ordering they know what parts have come in for any particular job and the technician responsible for the job.

This saves technicians time in waiting for parts to be supplied instead of waiting they are on the job repairing the machine This also helps the workshop productivity which also saves the customer money.

The initiative has also made it easier on the parts staff handling the counter as they do not have all the techs standing around waiting whilst they are on the phone or serving customers on the counter.

It has been a process we have implemented and we would like to thank the staff for their patience in getting their work areas set up. We know the dedicated parts staff have not had really comfortable working conditions, but we have plans in process to see this improve.

We are very pleased with the outcome and hope to implement the same in some of our other stores.

Earlier this month we had our first Part Manager’s meeting with our new staff .

It was a good opportunity for all of us to meet some new faces and to catch up with some of the old faces that we have been dealing with for some years.

I am looking forward to working with the new Parts Managers. You would have to go a long way to find the experience we have throughout our parts department. Looking at the top eight longest serving parts staff, we combine a total of 247 years of experience.

At this meeting we award the top preforming branch a certificate for excellence in achievement during the year.

Once again Jason has picked up the award on behalf of Albury.

This award gives you all the bragging rights for the next twelve months and so far Jase has not let up.Well done Albury

Henty has once again come and gone. We had a very successful three days .

I would like to thank all the staff involved especially the admin staff for all their efforts thanks Ladies.

Also a special mention must be given to our quite achiever Brian Kerr the back bone of Henty Field Days.

Welcome to CowraNikita Beatty our new Branch Administrator was raised in Mooreland, Indiana USA surrounded by corn and cows. She moved with her 3 year old daughter to Australia because she was fascinated by the laid back culture and obsessed with V8 Supercars.

They lived in Darwin NT for 5 years and moved to Cowra in December last year. Nikita is currently study at TAFE to complete her Certificate III in Agriculture and spends her

weekends as a Tupperware Manager, training and partying throughout the Central West. Nikita “loves working with these guys and looks forward to meeting everyone in the future.”

Welcome to Temora Chris Cassidy our new Parts Interpreter has lived in Temora all his life, having grown up on the family farm near Ariah Park and schooled in Temora. Chris played football with Ariah Park, Mirrool and Temora, now enjoying playing lawn bowls in Temora. Over the last 10 years he has been involved in Agriculture having worked at AGnVET Services (9.5yrs) and Moses and Son (1.5yrs). “Looking forward to my next challenge at H & P”.

Every year there we present our Parts and Service awards to the most outstanding Hutcheon and Pearce parts and service department. It is a keenly contested award each year with bragging rights between employees for the next 12 months. The key criteria for the awards were:

- Customer Experience Results

- Parts Fill Rates and parts and service stock control

- Department Sales Growth

In an extremely tight contest Albury were awarded both the parts and service awards for FY14.

I would like to thank all parts and service departments and employees for their continued dedication to improving the support we provide to our customers.

6M TRACTORS

Was it a mountain, hill or a speed bump? The M&A process at H&PJacqueline Negline-Smyth - Human Resources Manager

I think I am not on my own in saying, while it has not been a tumultuous ride during the acquisition process of H,A&G and A&G Machinery, it has certainly not been without it’s hurdles. These bumps have been smoothed, managed, jumped over and taken on board as we have all grown over the last 6 months.

Many companies go through mergers and acquisitions (M&As). Some do it well and others are not in business today to share how they would learn from their mistakes and amend components if they had their time again.

I would like to thank each and every employee from H&P, H,A&G and A&G machinery who has either been involved with the acquisition process and integration in some way or who has personally traversed across to the new H&P.

A great deal of effort, teamwork and skill was dedicated to ensuring our preparedness for the change and that the continued transition ran smoothly. We are not finished yet, nor will it be smooth sailing all the time, but we have achieved some significant milestones together and we need to stop and recognise these facts.

There were big changes to prepare for like the company structure and legalities. There were little things like phones, cars, computers, white page listings, pay days to merge, training contracts to traverse, new business cards, stationary, invoices, and the list goes on. Who would have thought so many requirements could consume so much time? It only took a few days to get used to answering the phone with the new company name. Well done.

Let us reflect on what has worked so far; despite the bumps, the light at the end of the tunnel is clearly visible:

• All employees were offered continued employment with H&P without loss to entitlements. There were no redundancies, pay cuts and the opportunities moving forward, have increased with more Branches and more roles for career growth.

• Many Shared Resource (SR) employees have been able to work remotely without the need to relocate to Wagga. This keeps families and jobs in our country towns.

• The accountants, lawyers and auditors have signed off the legal requirements. A huge milestone to work through in any M&A and a credit to the few lucky people especially Karen Garnsey who facilitates this feat.

• Our common processes and ‘getting the job done’ has just naturally happened. Not everything has ‘changed’ and it is a credit to all who have just got on and done what needed to be done.

• It is not really surprising to note how well everyone has communicated to ensure they are not blundering blindly along alone. The inter team (between teams) and intra team (inside a team) work has been exceptional. The new team dynamics are very exciting to work with and I can see great things ahead for our teams. Well done. Communication is the most common cause of failure in M&A’s so keep it up. There are no dumb questions at H&P. The only dumb ones are the ones not asked and never given the chance to be discovered.

• Taking on new processes and systems, while utilising a wider resource of roles can be challenging for many. Technical glitches thwarted our initial days and have improved out of sight since our first week. We will continue to deal with ‘change’, front on and treat it as development, improvement and growth. Easier said than done I know, but we are all in this together and no-one should feel like it is an impossible task. Please ask for assistance, our collective culture is ‘to bring others along with you’ and ‘no mate is left behind’. Colloquial, but very true. I am always very proud to talk about our supportive family culture at H&P; now we are just a bigger family’.

Our common mantra of providing exceptional products, services and environment to work in has exceeded our expectations. I am thrilled to work with you all.

I am highly confident our employees, customers and partners will only notice an improvement as we move forward to become the “Dealer of Choice” in the Agricultural Machinery industry.

Summer is approaching and here is an early warning for people to be aware of the dangers of exposure to high temperatures and the need to be well hydrated.

We are legally obliged to provide a safe working environment and managing such a foreseeable hazard such as hot weather is a necessary part of our duty of care.

Managers and supervisors must ensure planning is done to ensure workers exposed to high temperatures are safe, particularly in coming days when fatigue will add to the danger. You must assess what work needs to be done and how. You must ensure employees do not put themselves at risk.

Our employees, especially workshop technicians, are exposed to direct sun on a daily basis. There are clear safety issues with people working outdoors, but many people working indoors are at risk from indirect heat and fatigue.

Working on through the symptoms of heat stress can lead to serious illness and in extreme cases even death. The symptoms include: headaches, fatigue, dizziness or fainting, increased sweating, mood changes such as irritability or confusion, and possibly an upset stomach and vomiting.

Working in a hot environment can also impair concentration and that is when harmful incidents are more likely to occur.

Everyone has to play the part to ensure no one is put at risk.

Access to water is essential and rest breaks may have to be increased.

Remember to slip, slop, slap. All our employees working outside must have sun block on exposed skin and wearing hats.

No employee should be working with their shirts removed.

Make sure there is adequate ventilation.

Regular communication is needed for technicians working in the field on their own.

Young workers will need particular attention as the difficult environmental conditions or their enthusiasm and lack of experience means that they do not understand the potential dangers.

NO NEW TRAINEE OR APPRENTICE SHOULD BE WORKING BY THEMSELVES away from the shed.

Depending on the circumstances, some work may have to be rescheduled or modified e.g. starting earlier in the day, rotate workers who have to work in direct sunlight, or provide shade.

As the hot weather continues, fatigue may become an issue and you may need to consider this as an extra hazard. Fatigue can produce exceptionally dangerous situations, particularly when employees are operating machinery or vehicles.

Good supervision and looking after your workmates is a priority over the hot summer months. Monitor how employees are coping with the conditions and manage accordingly.

A great deal has changed in the 25 years since the first Shelbourne Reynolds Stripper Fronts was sold into the Southern Riverina Rice area.

The first machine delivered into Rice, purchased by John Payne at Coleambally, was a SR5400 18’ model fitted to a New Holland 8070.

It was not long before rice growers saw the benefits that the new stripping technology offered and demand grew from that point on.Growers then, like today, were requesting larger machines, so the model range grew to 20’ to accommodate new larger capacity machines like the John Deere 9600 that were becoming more popular.

Bill Armstrong, Hutcheon and Pearce Finley, recalls how convincing the factory to produce larger machines was a challenge in the early days. “There was no denying that back then the Shelbourne was a heavy front” he explained. “If we were to offer a larger platform for the Stripper Header, weight was going to be a big issue”.

The Shelbourne Engineers got to work on designs to provide wider machines that would remain within weight limits that could be handled by the Harvesters available at that time. The new RX Series machines hit the market in 1994 and were available in sizes 18”, 20’, and 22’.

The early 2000’s saw the release of the next generation RSD (Rice) and CVS (Cereal) Machines. Now available up to 32’, this saw a new market emerge for the Stripper Front with Markets opening up in South Australia and Northern NSW.

“In 2010 Shelbourne asked if we be involved in testing a prototype machine that could be put into Controlled Traffic Farming” Bill Said.

“I contacted Peter Radford, who had been running two Shelbourne CVS32 machines in his contracting fleet, to see if he could help out with the testing. After a successful season running the new Machine the XCV42 (41.5’) was released to the Australian Market.” Following the prototype season, Peter purchased two Machines for the 2012 harvest

followed, by a third the following year, bringing his fleet of Shelbourne Strippers to Five.

“Since that time we have sold a number of the XCV range of headers into WA, SA and NSW” said BillThe “Excel” range now includes XCV32, XCV 36 and the XCV42 size machines, all with centre Mount Tilting Adaptors and Gauge Wheels.Information on the full range of Shelbourne Rice or Cereal Headers is available by contacting your local Hutcheon and Pearce Branch.

Every year in September Hutcheon and Pearce work closely with the team at the Henty machinery Field Days to promote the range of John Deere products.

This year was a great team effort and showcased many machines and models across the John Deere range.

Day 1 was the busiest I have ever seen as the weather provided a beautiful spring day. Day 2 and 3 brought the rain that many farmers in the region were looking for. Having a wet Henty Field Days is great, I love seeing all of the families on our site, the children having a great time sitting on the mowers and tractors getting photos with dad and mum.

A highlight for the sales team this year was the arrival of the new John Deere R4045 Sprayer. This machine arrived into Port Kembla the day before the field days began.

With many phone calls made we managed to have the machine clear the wharf and be loaded on a truck to make it to Henty for the first day.

The R4045 represents the latest in spraying technology along with a host of the latest technology offerings including JDLink.

The Hutcheon and Pearce tent was well supported with plenty of toys and merchandise which always is a favourite with many of the visitors.

Our bullring made from hay bales which is filled with children’s pedal toys was also a very popular place to be, giving parents a

chance to have a rest, while the kids had some fun.

This year was our first year as the larger group and we had the chance to meet with many of our existing clients and many of our new clients which was also great.

For now we prepare for harvest and start thinking about our plans for Henty in 2015. See you at the Henty Field Days, nothing like it anywhere.

Hutcheon and Pearce Finley and Coleambally shops held a demo day on two 8R tractors: 8335R and 8360RT, one wheel and one track. The day started at about 9am with approximately 25 local farmers attending. After a quick walk around and introduction of the machines we set off to work. The track tractor was the feature of the day with a lot of farmers interested to see the performance in a row crop application. Because of the high amount of corn, cotton and soybeans grown in the area the performance of the track tractor was much anticipated. After a few runs with a trailing ripper we swapped implements to a linkage mounted 8 row bed former/hiller and then finished off the day with a linkage mounted 8 row Centre Buster. There were a couple of different paddocks to test the tractor out and many of the farmers were able to drive the tractor to get a real paddock experience. The tractor also did a few runs up the tracks at high speed to compare the ride quality to that of a wheel tractor.

Many of the farmers were very impressed with the comparison performance of the track tractor with increased traction, decreased fuel usage and increased speed of work. There were many positive comments about the ride

of the tractor not being near as rough as once experienced with previously non suspended Tracked Tractors.

Special thanks to James Kerr at the Coleambally shop for his work in gathering the customers. Further thanks to the Shields Family for the paddock, implements and allowing the use of their wheeled tractor. Also thanks to Andrew Sands, Bill Armstrong and Peter Davies for making the machine available and for getting it to the site.

We recently completed our annual harvest optimisation clinics in early October. This was a two day event with day one dedicated to Hutcheon and Pearce staff to ensure that we continue to enable our employees to stay up to speed with the latest product and technology information that relates to John Deere S-Series harvesters and front end equipment to support the product this coming harvest. In total, thirty parts, service and sales Hutcheon and Pearce staff took the day out.

The customer event was a conducted on the following day where S-Series customer that had purchased a machine this year, were talked through the most important aspects of operating the machines to their maximum capacity and the benefits of Hutcheon and Pearce technology enabled support through TECSight. Key topics included:

- Maximising in-field performance

- Maintenance points and adjustments

- Calibrations, JDLink, MyJohnDeere, Wireless data transfer

Presentations were conducted by our TECSight team, John Deere and Hutcheon and Pearce service staff. We thank everyone that attended and helped support the event.

Whiskers for RussiaOur Service Manager at Hutcheon and Pearce Finley branch, Chris Braybon, recently took “having a shave” to a whole new level.

Chris was one of nine “Motley Looking Lads” to participate in a Fundraising night of Trivia, Auctions and the biggest drawcard a “Whisker Shave” where these fellas pictured all had their VERY precious beards shaved off, some had been there for 30 years or more. Not only did some part with their beard but, for another $500 Chris was challenged to shave his head and his eyebrows off on the night. This was all for a most worthy cause and on the one night alone $26,000 was raised, all to help a 28 year old local mother of three young children, raise enough funds to get her to Russia for ground breaking stem cell treatment.

Emma Simpson has, or hopefully we can now say “HAD” a very aggressive form of MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Thanks to local community fundraising efforts Emma and her mother have been able to travel to Russia for a month of this ground breaking treatment and by all accounts should be on her way home now totally MS free.

Before and After - which is prettier? Well done Chris and team for this great cause. You have done H&P proud.

News from the Sales Department in ParkesThe Forbes, Parkes, Condobolin and surrounding area local PA and H Association shows had something in common this year, the dominant presence of the reputable duo of Hutcheon and Pearce and John Deere. With crowd numbers at shows up on last year, the John Deere site was a must see attraction for the whole family. The boys must have been doing something right with the prestigious Most Attractive Commercial Exhibit ribbon at the Parkes show now occupying wall space in the Parkes H&P office.

Local growers were interested in the displays of Gators, CUT’s and of course the 8 mile 6M tractors. Many producers were surprised at the features and affordability of the 6M and were keen to see the machines in action. While Dad was looking at the tractors, the kids were kept busy with the extensive display of toys and accessories put on by Mitch Chaffer and the Hutcheon and Pearce parts van.

With a 6150M doing demonstrations in the Trundle-Tullamore area this week to be coming home through Peak Hill and Alectown later in the month, the shows have proved successful in getting interest out into the farming community. Anyone interested in seeing what these machines can do on their place and can contact the Parkes Branch to arrange a time.

A big thanks to Mitch Chaffer for his effort over the show period. Having the parts van at the shows made making the site set up that much easier. The van certainly made an impact on customers who were keen to see the Parts Van back up this way in the future.

The shows on a whole were a great opportunity to showcase the John Deere product, with the general consensus from show-goers that it was good to see some green paint back at the events. The inquiry generated is still coming in with a fair bit of optimism in the district, looking forward to doing it all again next year.

Welcome to Albury SalesAfter school Ashley Irvine started a farming traineeship and worked in the agricultural

industry for 6 years working on livestock and cropping farms at Corowa and on the New England. He then started a job in the mines as a driller’s offsider to save for a house deposit. After he had had enough of mining, he then got a job

in a factory in Wodonga. Ashley decided to enrol in a Bachelor of Agriculture and pursue a career doing something more rewarding and agriculturally based.

When the opportunity to work at Hutcheon and Pearce came up he applied for it and when he got it I was stoked. He started at H&P on the 1st of September which gave him 3 week to get ready for Henty. CSU undergraduate opportunity By Harry Whipple

I walked through the door of TECSight on day one, and it was all actions go. Jason Nixon was informed that I needed login details. Andrew Watt started setting up a computer and I was signing my life away with policy forms. I was then on my way down to the dealership to work alongside Andrew Sands. The first thing he asked me was “What roles are you expecting to do while with H&P” my response was “I have no idea as long as I’m not cleaning the toilets”.

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. During my times I wondered what I was going to do with my degree. Sales and product development caught my eye and thanks to Hutcheon and Pearce I have had the opportunity to work in an industry that I have a passion for and for once it has been behind a computer screen and not in a tractor or header cab.

I would like to thank everyone that I had the opportunity to meet and thank the guys at TECSight for letting me intrude and a special thanks to Andrews Sands for letting me experience the Henty Field Days from a product experts point of view. Thanks to everyone at the Wagga dealership, and finally thanks to Aaron and Jaqueline for giving me the opportunity to gain skills in a industry that I have a passion in.

H&P donates to Ronald McDonald HouseThis year at Henty Machinery Field Days, Hutcheon and Pearce donated a large toy 7280R (as seen below) for their raffle to raise needed funds to assist familes with sick children in hospital.

Over the last two years, H&P has donated over $40, 000 to local charities who support and care for sick kids. Arron Hutcheon is seen below picking the lucky winnner.
