is to provide weekly weekend food for

students who lack an ample food sup-

ply, relieving the burden many of these

children endure by being hungry. In St.

Lucie County, 26.1%, or 15,970 children

are considered food insecure.

Our 3rd season of Heart & Sole at Southport starts February 21, 2017. This

international program, just for girls, is a transformational physical activity

based program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. It teaches life skills through dy-

namic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with

the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebra-

tory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence

through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of

health and fitness. Throughout the ten-week season, girls work and play

together to learn healthy personal and social habits while training for a 5K fun run. There is plenty of room on the

team! Please contact Mrs. Nicholas if your student is interested in joining this positive youth development program.

Southport Sports Stars Southport offers many opportunities for students to par-

ticipate in sports events, whether it be as a team member

or as a spectator. Boys and Girls basketball teams have

been scrimmaging several schools in our gym after school.

We encourage students to be good sports as they cheer on

our team. It is also important that students are picked up

on time if they plan to stay after school for the games. The

games are over by 6:30 PM.

Help us earn more cash for our school with the new Bonus Box

Tops App. This new feature is in combination with the on-pack

Box Tops that you send in with your student. Just download

the app at the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your

Android device and follow the directions to contribute to

Southport. Please continue clipping and sending in those

on-pack Box Tops too. The app is free and earning cash for

Southport is as easy as 1-2-3!

Month for modeling school wide expectations

and are also rewarded with monthly dress

down days, team based events like basketball,

movies, and board games. School wide events

are rewards for specific targeted behavior

expectations. Our annual PBS Carnival will be our next

school wide event and will take place on March 10th from

12PM—2PM. This is the early dismissal day before Spring

Break. Students can enjoy the giant slide, a DJ, numerous

games and snacks. Tickets for the event will be presold

from March 6th through March 8th for $4 and on March

9th for $6. There will be no last minute tickets sold on the

day of the carnival.

Each week we feature a historical question written by Mrs. McFadden on our WSPM

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that your student will take the computer-based Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) Grade 8

ELA Writing assessment(s) on Tuesday, March 7th. Your student will have an opportunity to participate in a practice test to become

familiar with the computer-based testing platform, item types, and response formats he or she will see on the FSA assessments. If you or

your student would like to review the computer-based practice test at home, the practice tests and answer keys are available at

http://www.fsassessments.org/students-and-families/practice-tests/.

For information regarding test session lengths for all Spring 2017 FSA assessments, please visit the FSA Portal at www.fsassessments.org,

click on the Students and Families icon, then select Spring 2017 Testing Times.

Please review the following policies with your student before testing:

Electronic Devices—Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones,

smartphones, and smartwatches, at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if the devices are turned off

or students do not use them. If your student is found with an electronic device, his or her test will be invalidated.

Testing Rules Acknowledgment—All FSA tests include a Testing Rules Acknowledgment that reads: “I understand the testing

rules that were just read to me. If I do not follow these rules, my test score may be invalidated.” Prior to testing, test

administrators read the rules to students, and students acknowledge that they understand the testing rules by signing below the

statement on their planning sheets, worksheets, or work folders.

Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last portion of the testing rules read to students before they sign below the Testing

Rules Acknowledgment states: “Because the content in all statewide assessments is secure, you may not discuss or reveal details

about the passages or items after the test. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or

posting online, for example, on websites like Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.” Please make sure your student understands that

“discussing” test content includes any kind of electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting to blogs or social

media websites. While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not

intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents/families.

Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers

from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated. In addition, the Florida

Department of Education (FDOE) employs Caveon Test Security to analyze student test results to detect unusually similar answer

patterns. Student tests within a school that are found to have extremely similar answer patterns will be invalidated.

Leaving Campus—If your student begins a test session and leaves campus before completing it (for lunch, an appointment or

illness, etc.), he or she will not be allowed to return to that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it

may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing

days.

Testing Accommodations—If your student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), Section 504 plan, or English Language

Learner (ELL) plan, please contact the school to discuss the testing accommodations that will be provided for your student.

If you have any questions related to this test administration, you may contact the school at (772) 337-5900. For more information about

the FSA program, please visit the FSA Portal at www.FSAssessments.org.

Thank you for supporting your student and encouraging him or her to do his or her best during this test administration.

materials/.
