rong mùa lễ Giáng Sinh có tập tục tặng quà cho gia đình và bạn bè và được coi là tập tục tốt. Quà là hình thức bên ngoài dùng để biểu lộ tình cảm bên trong. Trong thực tế, quà tặng mang những mục đích và ý nghĩa khác nhau. Có những món quà được trao cho nhau vì hình thức ngoại giao trong việc làm ăn. Có những món quà được trao ban vì theo tục lệ của gia đình và xã hội để làm cho buổi tiệc Giáng Sinh tăng

phần vui tươi Có những món quà được dùng với trọn tâm tình yêu mến của người muốn trao ban. Đây là lý do chính đáng và ý nghĩa cao thượng của việc tặng quà. Nếu quá chú trọng vào quà cáp thì có thể bóp méo ý nghĩa của lễ Giáng Sinh và nhất là giới trẻ không hiểu được ý nghĩa thánh thiêng của quà tặng Giáng Sinh. Ý nghĩa quan trọng và cao quý của quà tặng là tình yêu con người dành cho nhau. Chính Thiên Chúa đã thực hiện món quà này cho nhân loại. Thiên Chúa trao ban cho nhân loại một món quà bằng chính Con Một của Người chứ không phải bằng đồ vật. Ngôi Lời đã làm người và ở giữa chúng ta. (Gn. 1:14) Cha mời gọi các thành viên hãy mở món quà mà Thiên Chúa trao ban cho chúng ta bằng cách suy niệm câu Lời Chúa trên trong mùa Giáng Sinh 2014 này. Cha mời gọi mỗi người hãy tiếp tục đến với nhau hằng ngày hàng tuần bằng trái tim của một con người thật mà Chúa trao ban cho nhân loại. Hãy đến với nhau bằng nụ cười ánh mắt dịu hiền, rộng mở, để trao ban cho nhau một sức sống của người Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể. Đây là món quà quý giá và thánh thiêng chúng ta trao cho nhau không phải chỉ trong lễ Giáng Sinh, mà là mỗi ngày trong đời sống chúng ta. Nguyện xin niềm vui của đại lễ mừng Chúa Giáng Sinh được thấm nhuần trong trái tim và tình yêu của Người được bừng sáng trong tâm trí của mỗi người.

Pope Francis: the fifteen 'diseases' of the Curia

15 diseases listed and explained, one by one in detail. In his second Christmas speech to the Roman Curia, Pope Francis identifies and explains 15 shades of sin, inviting everyone to ask for God's for-giveness. The same God who 'is born in poverty in a cave in Bethlehem to teach us the power of humility', and was wel-comed not by the "chosen" people but by the "poor and simple". Pope Francis asks his collaborators to really examine their conscience in preparation for confession before Christmas. Francis explains that these 'diseases' and 'temptations' do not only concern the Curia but 'are naturally a danger to eve-ry Christian and every curia, communi-ty, congregation, parish, and ecclesiastic movement'. The Pope, however, clearly identifies these as present within the environment where he has been living for 21 months now. The Pope said that 'it would be good to think of the Roman Curia as a small model of the Church, that is as a "body" which earnestly attempts to be more alive, healthier, more

harmonious and more united in itslef and in Christ every day". The Curia, like the Church, cannot live 'without having a vital, personal, authentic and solid relationship with Christ'. And a member of the Curia who does not draw from that every day will become a mere bureaucrat. He adds that ' we will talk about the list of diseases which, following the Fathers of the desert, will aid us in preparing for confession'. The disease of feeling 'immortal' or 'essential' 'A curia that does not practice self-criticism, does not keep up to date, does not try to better itself, is an infirm Body'. The Pope mentions that a visit to cemeteries could help us see the names of many who 'maybe thought they were immortal, exempt and essential!'. It is the disease of those who 'turn into masters and feel supe-rior to everyone rather than in the service of all people. It often comes from the pathology of power, the "Messiah complex" and narcissism'. The disease of excessive activity It is the disease of those who, like Martha in the Gospel, 'lose themselves in their work, inevitably neglecting "what is better"; sitting at Jesus' feet'. The Pope recalls that Jesus

'called his disciples to "rest a little", be-cause neglecting necessary rest brings anxiety and stress'. The diseases of mental and spiritual 'petrification' It is the disease of those who 'lose their internal peace, their vivacity and au-dacity, to hide under papers and be-come "procedural machines" instead of men of God', unable to 'weep with those who weep and rejoice with those who rejoice!'. The disease of overplanning 'When the apostle plans everything in detail' and believes that, through this, 'things progress effectively, thus be-coming an accountant. Good planning is necessary but without falling into the temptation of wanting to enclose or steer the freedom of the Holy Spirit... it is always easier and more convenient to fall back on static and unchanged po-sitions'. The disease of bad coordination It is the disease of members who 'lose the community among them, and the Body loses its harmonious functionali-ty' becoming 'an orchestra producing undisciplined noise because its members do not co-operate and do not live

communally and have team spirit'. The disease of spiritu-al Alzheimer’s That is a 'progressive decline of spiritual faculties' which 'causes severe disadvantages to people', making them live in a 'state of absolute dependence on their, often imagined, views'. We can see this in those who have 'lost their memory' of their encounter with the Lord, in those who de-pend on their 'passions, whims and obsessions'. The disease of rivalry and vain-glory 'When the appearance, the col-our of the vestments and the honours become the first objec-tives of life... It is the disease that leads us to become false men and women, living a false "mysticism" and false "quietism"'. The disease of existential schizo-phrenia It is the disease of those who live 'a double life, a result of the hy-pocrisy typical of mediocre people and of advancing spiritual emptiness, which degrees or academic titles cannot fill'. It often strikes us that some 'abandon the pastoral service and limit their activities to bureaucracy, losing touch with reality and real people. They thus create their own parallel world, where they set aside all that the others harshly teach' and live a 'hidden' and often 'dissolute' life . The disease of gossip and chatter 'It takes hold of a person making them "sowers of discord" (like Satan), and, in many cases, "cold-blooded mur-derers" of the reputation of their colleagues and brothers. It is the disease of cowards, who do not

have the courage to speak up-front and so talk behind one's back... Watch out against the terrorism of gossip!'. The disease of deifying the leaders It is the disease of those who 'court their superiors', becoming victims of ’careerism’ and op-portunism' and 'live their voca-tion thinking only of what they must gain and not of what they must give'. It might also affects the superiors 'when they court some of their collaborators in order to gain their submission, loyalty and psychological dependence, but the final result is real ‘complicity'. The disease of indifference to others 'When each one thinks only of themselves and loses the truth-fulness and warmth of human relationships. When the more experienced ones do not offer their knowledge to the service of less experienced colleagues. When, because of jealousy or cunning, we rejoice in seeing others fall, rather than lift them up and encourage them'. The disease of the funeral face It is the disease of people who are 'scowling and unfriendly and think that, in order to be serious, they must show a mel-

ancholic and strict face and treat others - especial-ly those, whom they think are inferior - with rigid-ity, harshness and arrogance'. In reality, adds the Pope, 'theatrical strictness and sterile pessimism are often symptoms of fear and insecurity about them-selves. The apostle must strive to be a polite, serene, enthusiastic and joyful person...'. Francis invites people to be full of humour and self-irony; 'How beneficial a healthy dose of humour can be!' The disease of hoarding 'When the apostle seeks to fill an existential void in his heart by hoarding material possessions, not because of necessity, but only to feel secure. The disease of closed circles When belonging to a clique becomes more im-portant than belonging to the Body and, in some situations, than belonging to Christ himself. Even this disease starts from good intentions, but in time it enslaves all its members becoming "a cancer"'. The disease of worldly profit and exhibitionism 'When the apostle turns his service into power, and his power into a commodity to gain worldly profits, or even more powers. It is the disease of those peo-ple who relentlessly seek to increase their powers. To achieve that, they may defame, slander and dis-credit others, even on newspapers and magazines. Naturally, that is in order to show off and exhibit their superiority to others'. A disease that 'badly hurts the Body because it leads people to justify the use of any means in order to fulfill their aim, often in the name of transparency and justice!'

2014 has been a remarkably

productive year for our Move-

ment. On the administrative

front, we were successful in

rallying the spirit of all eight

regions to participate in the

National Day of Apostolic

Works. Not only did the

event provide Youth-Leaders

and youth members the op-

portunity to serve their com-

munity and share with them

Christ's infinite love, the

event also unified our mem-

bers as ONE Movement

with ONE mission, in ONE

Christ. With the spirit of

unity, we made great

strides improving our com-

munication with youth

members through the

weekly publication of TNTT

-Weekly. In embracing our

tradition of the Spiritual

Bouquet, we pushed hard

the Spiritual Bouquet cam-

paign nationwide to offer

God our prayers and

deeds through the inter-

cession of Mary. The over-

whelming positive results

were sent to the interna-

tional EYM office in ac-

cordance with our tradi-

tion. On the academic

front, the executive com-

mittees of all levels

(National, Regional and

League of Chapters)

continue to organize

and train Youth-Leaders

of tomorrow. Numer-

ous training camps

from Youth-Leader Lev-

el I to Youth-Leader

Trainer Level III domi-

nated the summer of

most Youth-Leaders,

and these events to

many were key life

markers that left posi-

tive changes. Subcom-

mittee leads are also

drafting the online pre-

camp assignment les-

sons to provide stand-

ardization and to assist

Youth-Leaders Level I

and II in preparing for

t h e i r u p c o m i n g

camps. On the finance

front, the National

Greetings to all Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement members,


Fundraising Campaign has

begun to rally support for

the development of the cen-

tral headquarters and opera-

tional endowment fund. All

of the above achievements

cannot happen without the

dedication, commitment

and prayers from each and

everyone of you.

While we have advanced a

great deal in the past year,

there is still much to be

done. We are currently de-

veloping our database to

manage and process future

membership and organiza-

tional activities, as well as

drafting our student curricu-

la to support our Youth-

Leaders weekly in educating

our members about Jesus in

the Eucharist and to in-

crease their faith. As a

Movement, we are also

planning for the Leadership

Congress in April, Sinai

HLVSC in June, Tiberia 7 in

July, EYM Centennial cele-

bration in Rome in August,

and the World Meeting of

Families in Septem-

ber. Planning will also

begin for our Coming to the

Promised Land Youth-

Leader Conference in 2016.

On top of the busy sched-

ule, we will also host sever-

al fundraising events to con-

tinue the momentum of our

national fundraising cam-

paign. With the dedication,

love and support you have

shown to our Movement, I

have no doubt we will come

together as ONE

and successfully

execute the plans

that lie ahead.

Thiên Chúa. Trong đó, chắc

chúng ta sẽ nhận ra nhiều thay đổi

đến với Thánh Giuse và Mẹ Maria.

Cuộc sống bà Elizabeth và ông

Giacaria cũng đều thay đổi. Dĩ

nhiên là con của ông bà là Gioan

Tẩy Giả cũng được thay đổi cho

dù là đang còn trong lòng mẹ. Ba

vua, các mục đồng, bà Ana và ông

Simeon cũng đều được biến đổi

trong niềm vui của Chúa Cứu Thế

Giáng Sinh.

Thay đổi hay đổi mới là một trong

các đề tài chính của Mùa Vọng.

Thiên Chúa cho chúng ta qua Giáo

Hội thời gian này để nhìn lại và

suy tư về cuộc đời chúng ta và hỏi

chính bản thân mình câu hỏi:

“Sự Giáng Sinh của Chúa Giêsu

đã thay đổi tôi như thế nào? Làm

cách nào để cuộc đời tôi được đổi

mới trong Mùa Vọng và Giáng

MÙA VỌNG VÀ MÙA GIÁNG SINH LÀ MÙA CỦA ĐỔI MỚI

Sinh năm nay?”

Để giúp cho bạn trả lời được

hai câu hỏi trên, xin mời bạn

hãy nhìn đến hai nhân vật

trong biến cố Giáng Sinh, đó là

Mẹ Maria và Thánh Giuse.

Hai người đã chấp nhận, phó

thác, và tin tưởng vào chương

trình của Thiên Chúa. Nếu bạn

nhìn vào cách họ đáp lời, “Xin

Vâng” và mang ra thực hành

trong đời sống của mình bằng

xin thưa “Xin Vâng” trong tất

cả thánh ý Chúa thì lúc đó cuộc

đời chúng ta sẽ có nhiều niềm

hy vọng và ý nghĩa hơn.

Hãy bắt đầu đổi mới trong năm

nay. Các nhân vật trong biến

cố Giáng Sinh đã đổi mới và

làm chứng cho một tình yêu vô

biên. Họ đã quên đi thân mình

để làm bằng chứng cho Thiên

Chúa. Ví dụ như Thánh Gioan

Tẩy Giả, người đã hết lòng

khiêm nhường hạ mình kêu

lên: “Tôi chỉ là tiếng kêu trong

hoang địa, kẻ đến sau tôi sẽ

cao trọng hơn tôi và tôi không

đáng cởi dây giầy cho Người.”

Chúng ta cũng được mời gọi để

đổi mới thế giới, bắt đầu từ

ngay trong gia đình, sở làm,

trường học, và giáo xứ chúng

ta đang sinh sống. Mỗi người

chúng ta là một Gioan Tẩy Giả,

là tiếng kêu trong hoang địa để

giới thiệu Thiên Chúa cho

những người

chưa biết

nhận biết

Chúa và đưa

những người

xa Chúa về

với Chúa.

Nhưng chúng

ta chỉ làm

đựợc việc ấy

nếu chúng ta

biết và gần

gũi với Chúa.

Chúng ta

không thể

nào làm chứng nhân để giới thiệu

Thiên Chúa cho người khác và đổi

mới người khác khi chúng ta chưa

đổi mới bản thân và chưa có Thiên

Chúa trong trái tim và tâm hồn

mình. Khi chúng ta làm được như

vậy là chúng ta đã đang góp phần

xây dựng một xã hội Chân-Thiện-

Mỹ.

Xin Chúa chúc lành và gìn giữ

chúng ta luôn mãi trong Trái Tim

của Người. Xin Mẹ Maria cùng

đồng hành với chúng ta và giúp

chúng ta biết bắt chước Mẹ để cất

hai tiếng “Xin Vâng” trong cuộc đời

Để chuẩn bị cho mùa Lễ Giáng Sinh năm nay, Liên Đoàn Nguồn Sống đã tổ chức một buổi tĩnh tâm với chủ đề “Ánh Sáng” cho tất cả các trợ tá và huynh trưởng với sự hướng dẫn của Cha Thành Tài từ đoàn Gioan Tiền Hô và hai sơ từ Dòng Mến Thánh Giá, Sơ Thêrês Phước Trần và Sơ Thúy Nga Nguyễn. Sơ Phước đã giúp cho Liên Đoàn hiểu thêm ý nghĩa về Ánh Sáng của Chúa Giáng Sinh. Sơ Nga và Cha Thành Tài đã hướng dẫn Liên Đoàn dọn mình và chuẩn đón Chúa Giêsu Hài Đồng qua buổi Chầu Thánh Thể rất là long trọng. Trong tâm tình của mùa Lễ Giáng Sinh, Liên Đoàn Nguồn Sống xin kính chúc Quý Cha Tuyên Úy, quý Trợ Úy, quý Trợ Tá và Quý Huynh Trưởng một mùa Giáng Sinh Thánh Thiện, tràn đầy hồng ân và phúc lành của Chúa Hài Đồng và một năm mới an khang thịnh vượng.

In preparation for the birth of our Savoir, Đoàn Khiết Tâm

kicked off the holiday spirit with our annual Advent retreat.

Các Huynh Trưởng worked together with Sr. Thu Liễu

Nguyễn, LHC to put together a day full of activities, reflec-

tions, adoration, as well as reconciliation for all students in

Việt Ngử, Giáo Lý, and Thiếu Nhi at the parish.

Đoàn Khiết Tâm is very fortunate to be able to collaborate

many events with Sr. Thu Liễu Nguyễn, LHC to help các

em get into the spirit. One of our most anticipated event of

the year, we annually join the confirmation program which

consists of our Nghĩa Sĩ to visit 2 convalescent homes. Các

em helped prepare and wrap over a hundred gifts to give to

the elderly. Not only did they bring gifts, but they also

brought their holiday spirit and cheers to them. This year,

one Nghĩa Sĩ shared during a reflection after the visit with,

“At first, I didn’t want to come because it was too early in

the morning, but seeing how excited they were to see young

faces, it made waking up worthwhile. I thought coming to

visit was to bring joy to the elders, but in return they

brought me joy with their smiles and hugs.”

Các em also went ice skating and had a white elephant gift

exchange. In addition to this year, các em have been practicing diligently every week-

end to prepare for the parish’s first Christmas play. Everyone is very excited to see

the final show, but most of all, excited for Jesus to come.

This Christmas, everyone from Đoàn Khiết Tâm would like to wish everyone a won-

derful Christmas Season. May the joy of Jesus’ birth bring you all nothing more than

full of warmth, laughter, and love.

Đoàn Các Thánh Tử Đạo Việt Nam ở Miền Tây trong các năm gần qua đã cho đoàn sinh

nghĩ mùa Đông từ trước lễ Tạ Ơn và trở lại vào đầu tháng Giêng. Vì lý do đoàn sinh có

tới 250 mà số HT thì chưa đầy 15. Mà vào mùa Giáng Sinh là dịp các em đoàn sinh và

các HT phải đối đầu với finals. Khi cho đoàn nghĩ Winter Break, đoàn TĐV, có thể tập

trung nhân lực vào việc tập dợt các hoạt cảnh để phục vụ cho giáo xứ trong các đêm

(văn nghệ) Hồng Ân, và (thánh lễ) Vọng Giáng Sinh. Ngoài các màn kịch, múa, hát như

mọi năm; năm nay đoàn có màn Shadow Dance để đáp ứng nhu cầu cho các em có lòng

yêu thích đóng góp phục vụ cộng đoàn nhưng mắc cở ngại ngùng trong lúc diễn xuất.

Dùng Shadow Dance sẽ giúp các em tự nhiên hơn vì cộng đoàn chỉ thấy những cái bóng

của các em mà thôi.

The chapters in the Mid-Atlantic region have been

staying busy the last couple months! Through song

and service, the Mid-Atlantic chapters have been pre-

paring for the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. During

the advent season, Đoàn Teresa Hài Đông (Bethlehem

PA), Đoàn Don Bosco (Richmond VA), and Đoàn

Fatima hosted an advent retreat for their youth mem-

bers, encouraging their members to reflect and grow

closer to God through reconciliation. Many chapters

have been practicing for Christmas performances, to

include Đoàn Thánh Tâm (Arlington VA) and Đoàn

Anrê Dũng Lạc (Silver Spring MD). Through it all,

many of the Mid-Atlantic chapters made time to get

out into the community to share Christ with others

through acts of apostolic works. As advent is a season

of preparation and joy, we hope that we continue to

grow in Christ’s love and rejoice in what the future

holds. Merry Christmas and have a blessed New

Cha Tuyên Uý Trung Ương và BCH Trung Ương một mùa Giáng Sinh

đươc tràn đầy bình an, một năm mới dư đầy hồng ân và phúc lộc của

Chúa Giêsu Hài Đồng.

Nhằm chuẩn bị cho Giáng Sinh, các đoàn TN Miền Tây Bắc chúng con

có nhiều kế hoạch rất là phong phú như giúp Giáo Xứ trang trí hang đá,

cây thông, dọn dẹp trong ngoài nhà thờ và giúp các Sơ tổ chức Tĩnh

Tâm cho Đoàn Thiếu Nhi và Việt Ngữ. Giúp buổi tiệc gây quỹ cho

Dòng Mến Thánh Giá, phân phát và phục vụ thức ăn cho người nghèo

và vô gia cư. Tham gia phần hát Thánh Ca và Diễn Nguyện Giáng Sinh.

Hay là làm những Christmas Care Packages cho người vô gia cư, các

soldiers... Hoặc có vài đoàn sẽ đi hát Christmas Caroling cho những trại dưỡng lão, nursing home..

Mặc dầu các Huynh Trưởng bận rộn với biết bao nhiêu công việc cho những ngày cuối năm và đăc biệt cho kỳ

thi final, nhưng sự nhiệt huyết, tinh thần giúp đỡ, hy sinh phục vụ mọi người vẫn luôn cao.

Một lần nữa, TNTT- MTB nguyện cầu niềm vui và an bình của đêm Giáng Sinh tuôn đổ trên quý Cha và quý

vị. Xin tình yêu của Chúa Giêsu Hài Đồng sưởi ấm trên mọi người và tiếp tục đốt lên trong tim mỗi người

ngọn lửa mến yêu phục vụ.


Hello, my name is Dat Hoang and I’m currently

a Nghia Si in Đoàn Các Thánh Tử Đạo Việt

Nam in Miền Tây, aka Tử Đạo Việt, or TDV.

This year I volunteered to lead the annual Christ-

mas Skit that TNTT puts up for the whole

church to see every year. At first when I accept-

ed the role of leading the skit, I thought that it

would be more work than it would be fun, but I

was completely wrong. I got the chance to create

stronger bonds with other members of our Doan

and I wished every practice could last forever

because I had so much fun. Normally every year

I would participate in the Christmas skit by be-

ing one of the roles in it and I got to see

firsthand how hard it is to put the whole show

together. I knew that I could not pull this off

alone so I reached out to my friends Jason Vu,

Darlene Nguyen, and Jeanette Mai to help me.

We spent countless hours creating the script,

finding music, and working together. While put-

ting the script together, we decided that the skit

would appeal more to the adults by having our

characters speak in Vietnamese only. It was the

biggest challenge our fellow actors and actresses

had to overcome since we live in a time where

most young people speak English more than our

parents’ native language. There were many times

they stumbled through their lines and wanted to

give up, but with the help of our Huynh Truong

chi Nam Tran, we got through it. Unfortunately

we did not have rooms big enough for the whole

cast so half of us had to often practice outside, but

of course we got through it. I was in charge of the

acting portion of the skit, while Darlene and fel-

low Huynh Truong chi Trang Bui put the dance

part together for the angels. This experience of

putting the annual Christmas skit together has

helped me become a better leader and it has

helped me create everlasting bonds with people I

thought I would never really get to know. We cre-

ated strong bonds through spending time together

and having our own little Secret Santa. I’m very

glad I got the chance to lead such an amazing

group of people. I loved and enjoyed every single

moment I shared with the people in my Doan. I’d

like to end by thanking all those who has helped

because I could not have done all this on my own.

our Praise and Worship with the

myrrh to baby Jesus

volunteered to help sort about 300

Christmas gifts for immigrant families in

the Atlanta areas...continuing our

National Apostolic Work Campaign!
