MEETING OUTLINE
• Fourth Street Trail Overview
• Open House
• Provides new opportunities for creating unique business climate in
downtown Huntingburg • Serves to attract tourism and new residents, to Huntingburg • Provides direct connections between downtown business district and other
parts of the community
DRIVER IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENT IN THE COMMUNITY
• Finding enough space within the current street alignment • Understanding the business needs along Fourth Street • Uncertainty of permanent construction versus temporary space
SOME OF OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES
• Worked with a sub committee of residents and business owners
• Had two meetings with Fourth Street property and business owners
DESIGN PROCESS
THREE AREAS 1. What do we want Fourth Street to be (design)?
2. Impacts of construction sequencing
3. Parking disruptions

WHAT SHOULD FOURTH STREET BE (DESIGN)?
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCING
KEY POINTS:
• Likely one construction season • Separate from water line
replacement work
WHAT WE HEARD:
• Complete all construction at once
PARKING DISRUPTIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION
WHAT WE HEARD:
• Parking is #1 issue! • There is public parking close
to Fourth Street- but will People use it?
PARKING POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS
• Better identify public parking DISRUPTIONS
• Create public relations
DURING CONSTRUCTION

DESIGN CHALLENGE… “This park must…” • Function for Special Events (Festivals, Jazz Festival, performances) • Function for “Everyday Use” • Compliment and enhance 4th Street Corridor • Be a place where people “come back to” and not visit just once • Be engaging, multi-purpose & unique.
• Public restrooms in lower level of adjacent 4th Street building • Provide shade areas (trees / canopies) • Provide flexible space (open lawn & plaza areas) • Lighting should be creative, functional & safe, & respective of surrounding
neighborhood context • Parking • Accessibility
FUNCTIONAL DESIGN FEATURES
• Performance venue(s) • Specialty paving in gathering areas of park • Interactive water feature (provides play and is architecturally interesting) • Use of art in and around park (donor recognition, sculpture, etc.) • Park amenities (Community Swings, pergola, seating, etc.) • Park signage and wayfinding (tie into 4th Street Heritage Trail) • Provide vendor accommodation
