More than 10.000 Polish people arrived to Budapest before the I. World War – they have worked in the stone mine.

After they used the Church – Conti their relegious leader started to organize the construction of their own.

Between the two World War the new Polish church was opened.

How/why the foreign people arrived to Kőbánya?

o1880: agents collected the poor workers from the near contries: Slovakian, Russian and Polish for the first round

o greek arrived later

o factories and mills opened quickly, they need more factory workers within a fairly short period

o they have got the promise of flat and long-term job opportunity

Why they settled in the district?

o before the socialism this district was rich in culture, in different kind of music groups and it was an unbelivable quater for every kind of pleasure ->

o originally the name of the Lady and String street was Lady and Gentelman street Damen and Herren Promenad – you can imagine!

o this already poor aera was full with hills and green gardens possibilities for trekking, picnic, walking and fishing as well!

o and then we had the socialism, they built housing estates for everyone and uncountable concrete-jungle…
