    ighteen participants participated in the discussion. 3i(e secretaries were ta*ing the minutes

    of the discussion.

    The topic of the discussion was di(ided into three segments4 and these segments were gi(en

    equal time.

    1-egislation against religious discrimination.

    2-Present situation of minorities and minor sects in Pa*istan.

    6-ecommendations.

    7hairperson ga(e an o(er(iew aout the topic to e discussed .e said that religious

    discrimination started with (ery start of Pa*istan now it is one of the most urning issue of

    Pa*istan. The "o(ernment is trying to cope with this issue for such purpose se(eral laws

    were made ut unfortunately these law couldn8t e implemented in its true spirit rather

    misuse of these laws were seen many times. 3urthermore he di(ided the discussion in three

    parts. 3or each part he included people8s opinion.

    )r.!deel opened the discussion y saying that the religious discrimination is core issue of

    Pa*istan ecause of the following three reasons.

    1-$dealogy of Pa*istan

    2-Pro:y war of Saudi !raia &ersus $ran

    $n elaorating his points he said that Pa*istan is ased on the ideology of $slam4 when we say

    that this country is only for )uslims where they can li(e and pray freely. !t that point4

    )uslims separate themsel(es from the people of other religion and religious discriminations

    started. !nother point of ;u,air was that cold war is happening etween Saudi !raia and

    $ran.

    )r. !dullah said minorities ha(e white colour which is a sign of dead ut we ha(e

    associated it with the li(ing .3orced marriages are ta*ing place after con(ersion to $slam

    without the will of non )usim girls. Segregation of minorities is pre(alent in Pa*istan.$n his

    response )r.)ohammad !li replied that Pa*istan is historically a multicultural society where

    people elonging to different faiths ha(e traditionally een li(ing together in peace4 harmony4mutual respect and understanding. $slam ad(ocates uni(ersal (alues li*e equality4 socio-

    economic =ustice4 fair play and respect for human rights with special emphasis on equal and

    =ust treatment of the minorities.

    !fter all this discussion )r. 7hairman intercepted and he presented second question for

    discussion.

    to go to your temples4 you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in

    this State of Pa*istan. Aou may elong to any religion or caste or creed C that has nothing to

    do with the usiness of the State... e are starting with this fundamental principle that we are

    all citi,ens and equal citi,ens of one State....D

    )aa, !hmed )ali* said that we don8t ha(e the concept of one nation. e are di(ided

    etween )uslims (s. ;on-)uslims4 Shia (s. Sunni. e further added that e(en our political

    parties8 supports different sects8 e.g. PPP supports Shia and P) ; supports Sunni.

    !deel !hmed raised three points-

    1-True spirit of $slam is not inculcated in Pa*istan.

    2-Pro:y war against afghan is ma=or issue of sectarianism

    6-e as a nation don8t *now4 whom to followE)uhammad )ohsin aroon said that current situation of minorities is not good in Pa*istan.

    These are the ;"%s which are e:ploiting the issues for their own enefits. e said that there

    is enough pro(isions in the constitution of Pa*istan which protects the rights of the minor

    communities in Pa*istan.

    Sa=al Tariq added that we are intolerant. This is the responsiility of teachers4 parents and

    media to teach the harmony to the societies and indi(iduals. e also added that go(ernment

    failed to implement minor laws.

    ;ow the 7hairperson said that discussion is enough and there was not much material

    presented in the discussion on current situation ut now come to the recommendation side.
