To All of You Thank you for your support and confidence in me for giving me this opportunity to serve as your 2014 President. It is truly an HONOR for me and I am VERY proud to be a part of Hui O Laulima! I look forward to meeting our new members and working with all of you on our upcoming events/activities (and we have a lot!). Congratulations and Welcome to our new Board members Connie Chun, First Vice President, and Cor- rine Onuma, Corresponding Secretary, and Doreen Yamashiro, Chair, Newsletter. We are still looking for chairpersons for the HUOA Festival and our Historian. Thank you for your dedication and commitment in “Giving a Helping Hand!” Congratulations also to Jean Tsuda, our Uchinanchu of the Year honoree for 2013! Very dedicated and well earned! It is only February but already I feel my adrenaline pumping! I am so-o-o-o excited! We have a lot of events/activities scheduled for this year. For starters, in March, we are having a New Member Tea for the new members who joined in 2013 and 2014. The objectives are for the new members to meet the Board members and other new members; to provide them with a brief history to give them an understanding of what the members of Hui O Laulima do. They will meet with each committee chair who will provide a brief summary of what the committee does. Hopefully, they will have a better understanding of who we are, what we do, and how things are done. We all work hard but we also have a lot of FUN! The Honolulu Festival is in March; Exhibits in the Convention Center on March 8 th and the pa- rade on March 9 th . Our “back by popular demand” Garage Sale is set for April; Children’s Camp is set for the week of June 2 through June 6; the Haari Boat Festival in Hilo is in Au- gust; and the Okinawan Festival is August 30 and 31.
