Architecture students from

Huffman High School’s

Academy of Architecture

and Construction extended

their classroom instruction

by touring the architectural

firm of Gresham, Smith

and Partners. Partner and

Rotary member Jim Griffo

invited the students to give

them a firsthand look at

the inner workings of the

company. The students

were greeted by Mr. Griffo,

architect Jonas Booker,

and interior designer Dex-

ter Carty. Academy stu-

dents were taken on a tour

of the facility and met

some of the architects, de-

signers, and engineers in-

volved in making the firm

a success. Gresham,

Smith and Partners pro-

vide design and consulting

solutions for the built envi-

ronment. For more than

45 years, GS&P has fo-

cused on enhancing quali-

ty of life and sustainability

within communities. GS&P

consists of industry-leading

professionals practicing ar-

chitecture and engineering

design as well as scientists

and highly specialized plan-

ning and strategic consult-

ants in Aviation, Corporate and

Urban Design, Environmental

Services, Federal,

Healthcare and Industrial,

Land Planning, Transportation

and Water Services.

dents. Dr. Carla Bell, Direc-

tor of Multicultural Affairs at

Auburn, offered four scholar-

ships to Huffman students for

summer programs at Auburn.

Students also visited the Rob-

ert R. Taylor School of Ar-

chitecture and Construction

Science at Tuskegee. Mr.

Rod Fluker and Mr. Rogers

Hunt spoke with students

about the awesome program

at Tuskegee. Huffman stu-

dents were able to see

Huffman High School’s Academy

of Architecture and Construction

took a tour of the Architecture and

Construction Departments of Au-

burn and Tuskegee. During their

visit to Auburn, Huffman students

were given an overview of the

school’s admission process. They

were then greeted by students in

the Architecture and Building Con-

struction program who took them

on a tour of the facilities and of-

fered them an opportunity to speak

with first year and graduating stu-

the 1st annual Career

Development Conference

hosted by the Birming-

ham Education Founda-

tion and the Birmingham

Rotary Club. The event

was a huge success. Stu-

dents had the opportuni-

ty to interview with some

of Birmingham’s most

prestigious and influen-

tial Rotary members.

The students also attend-

ed seminars on resume’

writing, business attire,

and social media do’s

and don’ts.
