HUDSON RIVER STRIPED BASS COOPERATIVE ANGLER PROGRAM ONLINE LOGBOOK Instructions for Installation and Completion The Hudson River Striped Bass Cooperative Angler Program provides us with additional data on the recreational striped bass fishery. The survey offers anglers the opportunity to participate in a research project that is essential for effective management of our Hudson River fishery, and at the same time allows participants to keep records of their fishing trips for their own use. Accurate and inclusive data is the key to successful management! Please record as much fishing information as possible, including all species encountered. Even if no fish are caught during your trip, please make sure to still submit a log. This will be calculated as a “Zero Catch” and is important for calculating fishing effort. Instructions for Installation and Completion

The Hudson River Striped Bass Cooperative Angler Program provides us with additional data on the recreational striped bass fishery. The survey offers anglers the opportunity to participate in a research project that is essential for effective management of our Hudson River fishery, and at the same time allows participants to keep records of their fishing trips for their own use.

Accurate and inclusive data is the key to successful management!

Please record as much fishing information as possible, including all species encountered. Even if no fish are caught during your trip, please make sure to still submit a log. This will be calculated as a “Zero Catch” and is important for calculating fishing effort.

How to Download Survey123

Downloading for Desktop (Windows, MacOS & Linux)

If you will be completing the survey from your computer, you need to install Survey123 for Desktop.

Visit the Survey123 website (http://doc.arcgis.com/en/survey123/download/) todownload and install the appropriate version of the software for your computerfrom the Survey123 field app section.

Once installed, click or copy the following into a web browser to open the HudsonRiver Striped Bass Cooperative Angler Program (SBCAP) survey: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/c9c4d2bc8997422fb4d7a7ad20e3e28a?portalUrl=https://nysdec.maps.arcgis.com&open=menu

Select “Open in the Survey123 field app” to open the Striped Bass CooperativeAngler Program Survey.

Survey123 for ArcGIS should now be on your computers desktop, and you cansubmit future trips by opening the survey from your desktop.

Downloading from App Store (iOS)

If you will be completing the survey from your Apple device, you need to download the Survey123 for ArcGIS.

Open ‘App Store’, use the search function to findSurvey123 for ArcGIS and begin downloading.

Once installed, either use your mobile device’scamera to scan QR code to access Hudson RiverSBCAP Logbook, click or copy the following link intoa web browser on your phone to open the survey:

Downloading from Google Play (Android)

If you will be completing the survey from your Android device, you need to download the Survey123 to ArcGIS.

Open ‘Google Play’, use the search function to find Survey123 for ArcGIS, andbegin installing.

How to Complete the Hudson River Striped Bass Cooperative Angler Program Online Logbook

All fields with a *Red Asterisk* are required. Your survey will not be submitted without all required fields.

Cooperative Angler Information: 1. Enter your Last Name, First Name, and Email (optional).

Trip Information: 2. Select the Date and Start Time of your fishing trip.3. Please specify the total hours fish for Herring and Striped Bass to the

nearest 15 minutes. Then use the clock to select the time when you are done fishing.

4. Type the total Number of Anglers that actively fished.5. Check the boxes to indicate the Tide(s) experienced while fishing.6. Check the boxes to indicate the type of Bait used. (Select all that apply)7. If Herring was used as bait, complete the If herring was used for bait

section below. If Herring was not used, leave this section blank.8. Check the boxes to indicate the Hook Type used while fishing. (Select all

that apply). If “Other” is selected, type what was used in the designated box.9. Indicate the place where you Fished From.10. Type the Depth (in feet) you primarily fished from.11. Type the Water temperature (in Fahrenheit).12. Type the Location you fished from. If location is not known, indicate the

nearest buoy number. 13. Specify Primary Target Species by typing in the field and select from list.

Specify Secondary Target Species, if any.14. For Zero Catch, indicate if you caught fish during this trip.

At this time, if you did not catch any fish, skip to Step 25 forinstructions on submitting your survey.

Total Species Catch Summary: If you caught fish during your trip, use this section to indicate the amount of legal and not legal fish caught (please remember to include the fish you took individual information from in the totals).

15. Specify Common Name of the species caught. Begin typing and selectfrom list.

16. Enter the total number of Legal Size and Not Legal Size fish caught.17. Enter the total number of fish Kept.

18. If more than one species were caught, use the + to provide a summary of

the additional species caught.

Individual Fish Caught Information: If you collected information (length, weight, etc.) on individual fish during your trip, you can fill out an entry for each individual fish caught (optional).

19. Specify the Common Name of the species caught, begin typing the nameand select from the list.

20. If available, indicate the Total Length and Weight of fish caught to thenearest 0.25 inches or pounds.

21. Indicate if you Kept your fish by selecting Yes (kept) or No (released).22. Type any Comments you may have about your fish, including lesions. If

you caught a Tagged Striped Bass, record the tag number and agencyhere.

23. If more than one fish was caught, use the + symbol to provide information

about another fish, or move on to the next section.

Bycatch and Trip Details: 24. Use these sections to record any Bycatch or additional Trip Details you

may have (wind, weather conditions, etc.). 25. Click on the Submit button (web browser) or Green Check (app) to complete your

survey.

For information on the current fishing limits or seasons, click on ‘Tidal Hudson River Regulations’. For more information

on our program, click on the Hudson River ‘Striped Bass Cooperative Angler

Program’ link.

Step 2: Select the Date of your fishing trip using the

drop down box. Use the clock to select the ‘Time Started’

fishing.

Step 3: Type the total number of hours fished for Herring and Striped Bass.

Then use the clock to select the 'Time Ended' fishing.

Step 4: Type the total ‘Number of Anglers’ that

actively fished.

Step 5: Check the box that indicate the ‘Tide(s)’

experienced while fishing. Select all that apply.

Step 6: Check the box or boxes that indicate what type

of ‘Bait’ was used. Select all that apply.

Step 7: If Herring was used for bait, please indicate how

many ‘bought’ or ‘caught’ herring were used. If herring

bait was caught, please specify how the herring was

caught in the text box provided.

Step 8: Use the check boxes to indicate what type of

‘Hook’ was used. Select all that apply.

If ‘Other’ is selected, please specify what type.

Step 9: Indicate where you fished from.

Step 10: Indicate the approximate depth (in feet) you fished from.

Step 11: Indicate the water temperature.

Step 12: Indicate the location you fished from.

Step 13: Specify ‘Primary Target Species’ by typing in

the field. Specify a ‘Secondary Target

Species’, if any.

Step 14: Check “Yes” if you did NOT catch fish. Check

“No” if you CAUGHT fish. (go to step 15).

If no fish were caught, you can click on the Green Check to

submit your survey.

For each species caught, use this section to indicate how many individuals

were legal or not legal.

*Please remember to include any fishyou took individual information from

in the totals.

Step 15: Type the ‘Common Name’ of the fish caught.

Step 16: Type the number of ‘Legal' size fish (of this species) caught and the

number of ‘Not Legal’ fish caught.

Step 17: Type the total number of fish (of this

species) that were ‘Kept’.

Note: ‘# Caught’ will automatically update, manual

input is not needed.

Step 18: If more than one species was caught, use the

‘+’ to provide a summary ofadditional species caught.

Individual Fish Caught Information

Step 19: Type the ‘Common Name’ of the

individual fish that you have collected data from.

Step 20: Type the total ‘Length’ and ‘Weight’ to the

nearest 0.25 inches or pounds.

Step 21: Check the circle ‘Yes’ if you kept this fish, or ‘No’ if

the fish was released.

Step 23: Click the ‘+’ to add information for another fish.

Step 22: Type any additional information about this fish in

the comments.

If you caught a ‘Tagged Striped Bass’, record

the Tag # and the Agency shown on the tag.

Bycatch and Trip Details

Step 24: Use these areas to record any ‘Bycatch” (species and quantity) or any “Trip Details”

(ex. weather conditions).

Step 25: Click on the ‘Submit’ button when your survey is

complete.
