Everyone is celebrating the placement of the last paving stone covering the last unpaved patch of ground on the planet—that is, everyone except Ito, a girl with ears so big she can hear the ground talking. HTY’s resilience series continues with this modem comic fable about being different and the courage it takes to sustain our environment.

Grades 3-6October 13 - October 30Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri @ 9:30 & 11am • Wednesdays @ 9:00 & 10:30amPart of HTY’s RESILIENCE Series

by HTY Ensemble

These traditional stories from Hawai‘i and our neighbors in the Pacifi c celebrate the cultural traditions that connect us. Filled with humor, music and movement, these songs, dances and folktales not only teach about our past, but provide valuable wisdom for growing up today and our collective future.

“Run, run, as fast as you can! You no can catch me, I’m one musubi man!” The pidgin-speaking Musubi Man, like the gingerbread man in the classic tale, is determined not to be eaten and he sets out on a wild journey that takes him all the way to the sea. Designed to foster young children’s pre-literacy development, the story gives plenty of opportunity for kids to interact and help with the storytelling.

Preschool - Grade KNovember 2 - November 20Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri @ 9:30 & 11am • Wednesdays @ 9:00 & 10:30am

by Local Writers and the HTY Ensemble

This collection of short stories, sketches and songs captures the good, bad and hilarious of the holiday season in Hawai‘i. Pened by local comedy writers, this original play is a patchwork reminding us that there is no “normal” when it comes to celebrating our families and community and that even “tradition” deserves a little creativity.

by Lee Cataluna

When cousins Noa and Luana spend a summer with their Aunty Halia on Kaua‘i, they do not imagine the mysteries they will uncover or the magic that will turn a boring summer into a quest. Told with humor, this story of modern kids learning to appreciate their family history, culture and their place in the world is a beautiful example of the gifts genera-tions give each other.

by Harmony Tesoro and the HTY Ensemble

Made for HTY’s youngest audience, this participatory journey takes our keiki on an adventure through the wild jungles and deep forests of India and beyond. Along the way, the audience learns simple poses to calm down or power up their bodies. Breathe like a lion, move like a mouse and use your body and imagination to move your way to a healthy life.

This new musical telling of the classic story focuses on Alex, an avid gamer who struggles to fi nd the right balance between life outside her favorite video game, “Neverland” and her desire to play, play, play. Is it time to grow up and face the mounting pressures of home and school or to fl y on ‘till morning? Told with contemporary music, special effects and a little pixie dust, this original HTY adaptation soars to life bringing to the stage all the action and excitement of the original telling but for a new generation.

THE LAST PAVING STONE

E Komo MaiWelcome to our 66th Season of theatre. With your help, well over

100,000 students will experience the joy of live, professional

theatre as part of their education in the 2020-2021 school year!

Whether your group fancies a new take on a classic story, an

exploration of Hawaii’s rich culture or just a fun Holiday fi eldtrip

you can be assured that each of these off erings is built with the

local educator in mind. A full study guide connecting the

experience to DOE Standards is available for every production.

Our staff is available to answer questions, help with reservations

and make your process as easy as possible.

Most schools on Oahu attend multiple HTY productions each

year. Many attend multiple productions, do drama education

residencies and think of HTY as an important educational

partner. So many teachers make HTY a part of their classroom

that we actually reach more students each year than any

institution in Hawaii outside of the Department of Education.

We look forward to bringing music, stories, knowledge, empathy,

values and laughter to your students in the year to come!
