matches and 32 men’s and women’s basketball games. BSU’s men’s and women’s basketball games on Dec. 18 against the University of Mary will also air on Midco Sports Network.

GROSKREUTZ EARNS SIXTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR Groskreutz was named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the NSIC in digs per set as she averaged 7.25 in two matches. She led the Beavers defensively with 37 digs on Friday in a five-set thriller against MSU Moorhead. The 37 digs by Groskreutz was one shy of her career-high 38 digs, which is the school record at BSU for most digs in a contest. She is the most decorated player in BSU history in terms of Player of the Week honors. Groskreutz’s six Player of the Week honors trumps Lisa Smith who had the next-most honors in her career with three. HACKER NAMED BEAVER PRIDE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Junior Kimberly Hacker was selected as the Beaver Pride Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 24. Hacker tallied 18 kills on the weekend against No. 5 Concordia-St. Paul and St. Cloud State. The Beaver player hiit a combined .517 on the weekend. She had 10 kills and hit .500 as the Beavers picked up a five-set victory over the Huskies on Saturday. St. Cloud State came into the weekend as the 10th ranked team in the NCAA Central Region rankings that came out earlier in the week. On Friday, she had eight kills and tied a season-high hitting .538 against the Golden Bears. BEAVERS UPSET 10TH RANKED TEAM IN REGION

The Bemidji State Beavers upset the St. Cloud State Huskies on Saturday in a five-set thriller at BSU Gymnasium. The Huskies came into the evening ranked as the No. 10 team in the NCAA Central Region polls released earlier in the week. Coming into the match, St. Cloud State had nine losses, eight of which came to teams currently ranked in the top 15 nationally.

BEAVERS SNAP SKID

The Bemidji State University volleyball team snapped an eight-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory last Saturday over the Upper Iowa University Peacocks. Saturday’s win ended the longest losing streak for the Beavers since they lost nine straight from Oct. 3 to Oct. 31 during the 2008 season. During this season’s struggle, BSU lost to six opponents ranked in the top 15 nationally, including five to opponents ranked in the top 10.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS

Nicole Olson (Baudette, Minn.) moved into the top 10 in five career categories for the Beavers earlier this season. As the season progresses, Olson is finding her way up the charts in all five categories. She is currently ranked seventh all-time in career kills with 1,178. Olson needs 14 kills to move past Molly Heisenfelt at No. 5.

In addition to being ranked seventh for total kills, Olson places fourth for block assists (264) and fifth for total blocks (340). She needs 11 block assists to move past Kris Kuehlwein in third place for block assists and 31 total blocks to move past Michelle Kramer in fourth place.

Olson’s fourth category she places in the top 10 in is kill attempts. Her 2,986 kill attempts currently ranks her seventh all-time. She needs two atttempts to move past Molly Heisenfelt in sixth place and 33 to take over fifth place from Diane Glampe. Olson moved into the top 10 for a fifth category as she now places seventh for solo blocks with 76. She needs 19 solo blocks to move past Heidi Krueger in seventh place.

Olson can move into the top 10 for a sixth category with five more games played this season which should happen since the Beavers have at least six games left this season with matches against No. 5 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 17 Minnesota State this weekend.

GROSKREUTZ NAMED NSIC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior libero Brie Groskreutz (Reedsburg, Wis.) was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts for the Beavers in three matches against NSIC foes last week. Groskreutz has continued to be the vital cog for the BSU defense. The school’s all-time career digs leader with 1,858 career digs averaged 5.60 digs per game against the University of Mary, Minnesota State University Moorhead and the University of Minnesota, Crookston last week for the Beavers. MSU Moorhead ended a 13-game win streak for the Beavers last Friday. BSU won four straight 3-0 matches and the first set of Friday’s match with the Dragons before losing three straight to MSUM. The streak served as the longest the Beavers have gone without a loss in a game since 1989 when they also had a 13-game win streak.

OLSON, GROSKREUTZ NAMED ALL-TOURNAMENT

Seniors Brie Groskreutz and Nicole Olson were selected to the Dragon Classic All-Tournament team after strong weekends in Moorhead, Minn. Groskretuz averaged 5.29 digs per game includ-ing 31 digs against Northern State, while Olson tallied 40 kills and five blocks in four games in Moorhead.
