BY SHAVONNE POTTS [email protected] The North Carolina Medical Board reported the license of a Winston-Salem physician’s assistant who lives in Salis- bury has been suspended after a 2008 driving while impaired charge. The board took action against Richard Walter Trombley, 62, on Jan. 22. The report says Trombley, a certi- fied physician’s assistant with Concen- tra Medical Center in Winston-Salem, had his license indefinitely suspended. The board released its bi-monthly re- port of all actions from January and February. Trombley was stopped by a Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy March 22, 2008, for driving while impaired. He was stopped at 9:48 p.m. on a Saturday and released 4 a.m. the following day, ac- cording to Sheriff’s officials. Trombley was taken to the magis- trate’s office, jailed and given a written promise to appear in court April 18. The Medical Board report says in April 2009, Trombley and the Board en- tered into a consent order based on his driving while impaired arrest. He was reprimanded and placed on probation- ary terms and conditions including “re- fraining from the use of all mind or mood-altering substances and alcohol.” A consent order is a way for the board to resolve a matter without a for- mal hearing. The consent order is an agreement between the board and the practitioner that details action taken by the board. The report also says Trombley has to notify the board within 10 days of his use of such medication or alcohol. He was also required to maintain a contract with N.C. Physicians Health Program, a monitoring and referral service for the treatment of impaired physicians. After signing the consent order, Trombley admitted to consuming wine, the report said. Trombley entered into a contract with the N.C. Physicians Health Pro- gram in August 2009. “He has been assessed as alcohol de- pendent, and inactivated his physician assistant’s license in October 2009,” the report said. A phone call to Concentra Medical Center confirmed Trombley is no longer employed at the practice. State offices among those closing for Easter BY KARISSA MINN [email protected] A blaze that de- stroyed a two-story home in Faith on Sunday was caused by a grease fire, investigators say. “There was a pot of grease on stove that they had used to fix French fries,” said Kevin Holshouser, who served as assistant Rowan County fire mar- shal Sunday. “The stove was left on and had been unattended for a little while before fire was no- ticed.” A call just before 5 p.m. reported smoke at 449 S. Main St. in Faith. Originally, it was report- ed that no one was home, but Holshouser said Wednesday that three adults and one child were present when the fire started. They were relatives of the homeowner, June Solomon — Thomas Gardner Jr., 36, Ricky Sturdivant Jr., 30, Ed- ward Blaise, 21, and a 10-year-old boy. The Red Cross is assisting the family. Two of the three adults attempted to put the fire out themselves, Holshouser said. This allowed the fire to get progressively worse. “By the time the fire department got there... they couldn’t even make an interior attack on it because of quickly dete- riorating conditions,” Holshouser said. “It was a balloon construction type of house. Once the fire breaches a ceiling or wall in a house like that, it can travel real quick.” It took about an hour for firefighters to get the blaze under control as neighbors gathered and looked on. All three trucks from Faith responded to the fire, along with engines from Bostian Heights, Granite Quarry, Salis- bury and Rockwell City fire departments. He took a gem display valued at $200 and also pulled or knocked down a surveillance camera. The camera was found discarded outside the building. During the crime, a park security camera captured the crime, which shows two white males. In the video, the suspects use head gear lights to see inside the dark building.
