The North Carolina Medical Boardreported the license of a Winston-Salemphysician’s assistant who lives in Salis-bury has been suspended after a 2008driving while impaired charge.
The board took action againstRichard Walter Trombley, 62, on Jan.22.
The report says Trombley, a certi-fied physician’s assistant with Concen-tra Medical Center in Winston-Salem,had his license indefinitely suspended.
The board released its bi-monthly re-port of all actions from January andFebruary.
Trombley was stopped by a RowanCounty Sheriff’s deputy March 22, 2008,for driving while impaired. He wasstopped at 9:48 p.m. on a Saturday andreleased 4 a.m. the following day, ac-cording to Sheriff’s officials.
Trombley was taken to the magis-trate’s office, jailed and given a writtenpromise to appear in court April 18.
The Medical Board report says inApril 2009, Trombley and the Board en-tered into a consent order based on hisdriving while impaired arrest. He wasreprimanded and placed on probation-ary terms and conditions including “re-fraining from the use of all mind ormood-altering substances and alcohol.”
A consent order is a way for theboard to resolve a matter without a for-mal hearing. The consent order is anagreement between the board and thepractitioner that details action taken bythe board.
The report also says Trombley hasto notify the board within 10 days of hisuse of such medication or alcohol.
He was also required to maintain acontract with N.C. Physicians HealthProgram, a monitoring and referralservice for the treatment of impairedphysicians.
After signing the consent order,Trombley admitted to consuming wine, the report said.
Trombley entered into a contractwith the N.C. Physicians Health Pro-gram in August 2009.
“He has been assessed as alcohol de-pendent, and inactivated his physicianassistant’s license in October 2009,” thereport said.
A phone call to Concentra MedicalCenter confirmed Trombley is no longeremployed at the practice.
There is no telephone listing forTrombley, who according to the RowanCounty tax map resides on Stafford Es-tates Drive.

A blaze that de-stroyed a two-storyhome in Faith on Sundaywas caused by a greasefire, investigators say.
“There was a pot ofgrease on stove thatthey had used to fixFrench fries,” saidKevin Holshouser, whoserved as assistantRowan County fire mar-shal Sunday. “The stovewas left on and had beenunattended for a littlewhile before fire was no-ticed.”
A call just before 5p.m. reported smoke at449 S. Main St. in Faith.Originally, it was report-ed that no one was home, but Holshouser saidWednesday that threeadults and one childwere present when thefire started.
They were relativesof the homeowner, JuneSolomon — ThomasGardner Jr., 36, RickySturdivant Jr., 30, Ed-
ward Blaise, 21, and a10-year-old boy. TheRed Cross is assistingthe family.
Two of the threeadults attempted to putthe fire out themselves,Holshouser said. Thisallowed the fire to getprogressively worse.
“By the time the firedepartment got there...they couldn’t even makean interior attack on itbecause of quickly dete-riorating conditions,”Holshouser said. “It wasa balloon constructiontype of house. Once thefire breaches a ceilingor wall in a house likethat, it can travel realquick.”
It took about an hourfor firefighters to getthe blaze under controlas neighbors gatheredand looked on.
All three trucks fromFaith responded to thefire, along with enginesfrom Bostian Heights,Granite Quarry, Salis-bury and Rockwell Cityfire departments.
