You were asked to take part in a cost-effectiveness project What was your role I looked at company overheads which consist of all ongoing expenses not related to direct labour or materials In particular I focused on holiday backlogs which at the end of the year result in a huge accrual from the company I was responsible for monitoring employeesrsquo holidays by creating and implementing a tool that would keep pushing to reduce the backlog This required regular meetings with line managers and directors in order to raise cost awareness in the business and to keep top management continuously updated on saving improvement

The money saved as a result of optimizing operational and financial management and from the consequent improvement of the processes could be dedicated to new investments or to improve operating margin Hence what we achieved improved the bottom line profit of the overall business

It sounds like quite a challenging project Yes it certainly was It was much more challenging than it sounds but at the same time also incredibly rewarding Getting stakeholders within the business onboard and earning the commitment of people with very different goals and priorities hasnrsquot been easy at all But in the end I really learned a lot in terms of project management and the benefit in always looking for alternative solutions to problems But most of all this project taught me about leadership and helped me improve my communication and relationship skills especially
