Dear HR Leader,
We are excited to announce our new offering “The HR Generalist School,” embedded in Linkage’s world renowned Organizational Development Summit, taking place May 2-5, 2011 in Chicago. It’s truly designed to be a transformational experience for HR Generalists at all levels.
Imagine a faculty of the legends and stars of HR—Chris Argyris, Warren Bennis, Edgar Schein, David Ulrich, and many more. These thought leaders, along with HR practitioners, will provide access to the tested and practical tools, techniques, and methods that can be immediately applied to your company’s programs and needs.
The HR Generalist School starts with a one-day immersion program on May 2nd and is threaded throughout the remaining three days of the OD Summit. The foundation of the HR Generalist School is the learning team. Led by experienced HR professionals who serve as facilitators, coaches, and mentors to their teams, they will maintain the connection for a year of learning to continue the exchange of ideas and best practices.
The HR Generalist School will fill to capacity quickly, so don’t miss the opportunity for your company. I personally guarantee this to be the best value for your investment.
I look forward to seeing you there. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions about this program ([email protected]).

HR Generalist School Focus AreasPerformance Management and Getting Strategic Results
HR Generalists tasked with performance management initiatives must know how to create strategic and integrated approaches for increasing effectiveness, whether the initiative is on the individual, team, or organizational level. Successful initiatives in performance management can increase productivity, profitability, deliver on strategic and operational goals, and improve business results.
In these sessions, participants will:
• acquire a better understanding of developing strategic scorecards for actual results versus desired results
• learn to define the differences between a commitment analysis, work analysis, and systems analysis
• access tools and strategies for planning, monitoring, developing, and enhancing performance management
• explore the cycle of performance planning, coaching, and appraisal
Talent Management and Rebuilding and Maintaining Bench Strength
HR Generalists tasked with talent management must be able to create initiatives to attract, maintain, develop, and retain employees that are going to meet business objectives. Talent management covers a wide spectrum: from the focus on development of high potentials to managing the entire employee population. Effective talent management benefits the total organization by addressing issues of retention and competitiveness.
In these sessions, participants will:
• outline the “Big Four of Talent Management”—performance management, leadership development, workforce planning/identifying talent gaps, and recruiting
• access best practices for aligning a talent management system with business strategy
• identify key tools and competencies for talent management
• explore how to implement talent management systems into daily processes
Driving Change to Get New Results
HR Generalists tasked with change management initiatives must be able to create a structured approach to an individual, a team, or an organization going through a transition, and enable them to get to a desired future state. A successful change management initiative has stakeholders who are willing to accept change in order to get to the desired future state.
In these sessions, participants will:
• explore the differences between changes in mission, strategic changes, operational changes, technological changes, cultural, or behavioral changes
• learn how to diagnose the need for change, the capability to change, and the change management plan
• access best practices in effective communication, training and development practices, directional employee strategy, and monitoring

Employee Engagement and Establishing Trust
HR Generalists tasked with raising employee engagement must be able to involve an employee in a way that furthers an organization’s goals by furthering a commitment to work. This means building engagement to help accomplish the vision of the organization. A successful employee engagement initiative results in an employee that is satisfied, willing to learn and perform at work, cares about the future of the organization, benefits internal and external customers, and results in financial success for the organization.
In these sessions, participants will:
• learn how to create an environment where employees are engaged and involved
• explore best practices in creating emotional attachment
• access examples of extraordinary teams across multiple industries
Leadership Development and Creating the Future
HR Generalists tasked with leadership development initiatives must be able to create activities that enhance the quality of leadership, whether it is within an individual or across the organization. Successful leadership development initiatives develop a benchmark of current and future leaders who possess the desired abilities and attitudes that can create a better future for the organization.
In these sessions, participants will:
• explore learner and leader characteristics
• access best practices for defining the quality and nature of the leadership development program needed
• define the key concepts of experiential learning, self efficacy, and visioning
• understand how to develop a full leadership system including both formal and informal learning approaches
• learn how to evaluate the ROI of leadership development programs and initiatives
Learning teams are a daily forum where
critical introspection takes place. Each
individual will apply what she or he
has learned from practical experience,
organizational challenges and issues,
and network and learn from fellow
participants.
Learning team topic discussions will
include:
• consulting skills
• coaching skills
• getting buy-in from senior
management
• building credibility
• catching up to strategy
• setting up a talent system
• how to drive change
• setting up a LD system
• managing HR while developing OD
