We celebrate 2nd October not only as Gandhiji’s birth anniversary but also as the

day when the concept of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was born. 5 years ago on a trip to London the passion for a clean India had engulfed me.

I recall that during 2016-17, I was the President of ‘HP Shakti Ladies Club’ in the HPNE colony which gave me the lead to promote a cleanliness drive. #anks to the support extended by Smt. Sunita Joshi - Chairperson of the club we initiated a drive to promote cleanliness in Vasinaka. In this regard I am also thankful to Smt. Jyothi Ninje - faculty member of Environmental Sciences, VJTI, Mumbai who encouraged the postgraduate students of her college to participate in the drive.

AN inclusive effort TOWARDS Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

It was a 2-day activity. On the "rst day the Ladies Club members and HPNE sta$ visited the shops and gave an introductory talk about the drive to the shopkeepers located all along the way from HPNE down gate. On the following day, our colony residents and VJTI students educated the shopkeepers and vendors of the area on the importance of a clean

environment and its sustainability, community health, reduction in the usage of polythene, the need to segregate dry and wet waste and such other measures. To add spice to the programme, we ran a quiz competition and distributed prizes to the winners. What’s more, it came as a pleasant surprise to us when Shri Pushp Joshi - Director - HR joined the programme.

#is much appreciated, noble endeavor made shopkeepers practice cleanliness in more ways than one and eventually in 2018, Ryan International School

continued the exercise under the support and guidance of Shri Ananda Rao - Head of HPCL’s Corporate HSE department.

3 cheers to all the volunteers!
