REFILL INSTRUCTIONS Please read these instructions carefully before using your Inkjet Cartridge Refill Kit. Select the model of your printer from one of the pages shown.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Cyan = Blue, Magenta = Red/Pink, Yellow = Yellow,

Light Cyan / Photo Cyan = Light Blue, Light Magenta / Photo Magenta = Light Red/Pink.

Our simple to use refill kit, if used correctly, should provide top quality printed output & give you HUGE SAVINGS over the cost of buying a new cartridge.

Before you start:

• Read the instructions carefully.

• Work over a sink or a surface covered in layers of newspaper (just in case).

• Only re-fill a cartridge that has just run out ~ generally, old dried out cartridges do not fill successfully.

• Even 30 minutes can ruin a cartridge if it dries out!

• Have your printer manual handy for instructions on inserting a “new” cartridge.

• Empty cartridges left for more than 2 days do not always give a successful refill.

• Always refill the cartridge as soon as the warning sign is shown.

• A leaking cartridge can damage your printer. Do not place a cartridge into your printer that is leaking.

• Change your cartridge after every 5 refills, if you do not, quality of printing will deteriorate noticeably.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of the lifecycle of inkjet printers and the speed with which manufacturers are bringing out new models, your printer/cartridge may not be listed. Please find the closest cartridge to yours and follow those instructions – for colour cartridges make sure you push a cocktail stick, cotton bud or something similar into the filling hole before injecting ink to determine which colour to inject. Injecting the wrong colour will render the cartridge useless!

The Air pressure within the 51626A, 51629A/ 51629G & C6614D cartridges is regulated by an aerator (Aperture C) that must be sealed to prevent leakage during refilling. Use strong adhesive tape to completely seal this aperture.

2. The cartridge is sealed by a plastic ball in Aperture B on the top of the cartridge. This ball must be removed by pushing it into the cartridge using a ballpoint pen or other pointed tool. Be sure that you are working over a sink when the ball is pushed into the cartridge ~ just in case!! Newer versions of this cartridge do not have this opening; a hole of approximately 3mm diameter must be carefully made in the same position shown with the screw provided.

IMPORTANT - DO NOT PIERCE APERTURE A 3. The cartridge should now be rested in an upright position over the sink. Inject up to 20ml of ink into the top corner hole (Aperture B). You must seal the top corner hole so that it is air tight. We suggest using the screw supplied or strong glue. Which ever you decide to use, you should squeeze the cartridge just before sealing to set up the vacuum.

4. Have a pad of paper towels near by to place the cartridge on while the cartridge is being squeezed. This is to absorb any ink that might be forced out.

5. Remove the tape over aperture C, and blot with the tissue if necessary.

6. Set on a paper towel for an hour as a drip precaution. Expect a few drips until the vacuum stabilizes

7. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.

8. If necessary leave cartridge in printer for up to 24 hours. (This allows ink to flow to the print head). IMPORTANT – for best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately. This work is best done over the sink.

On the 51625A, 51649A (51649G) & C1816A the filler holes are located under the green or blue top. The green or blue top must be removed before refilling by carefully prying it off with a thin flat metal blade, such as a bread knife or penknife. Alternatively lay the cartridge on its side, hold down firmly, and strike the green top with a blunt instrument to break its seal being careful not to damage the circuits on the rear of the cartridge. This process can be tricky but once you master it you will find the next one easy.

2. Insert the filling needle into the filler hole of the colour to be refilled, and push downwards until the filling needle reaches the centre of the cartridge. Note: The cartridge contains a sponge and a slight resistance may be felt. Important: When you take off the colour cartridge cap will notice that the sponge is white. Do not change the sponge colour. Fill the individual colours until the colour just begins to show in the white sponge.

3. Slowly inject up to 7ml. of ink until the sponge is saturated.

4. After refilling the top can be refitted and secured with adhesive tape.

5. Set above a paper towel for an hour as a drip precaution. Expect a few drips. Do not allow the paper towel to touch the bottom of the cartridge, as it will draw out all of the ink. Remove any large hanging drops immediately.

6. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.

If necessary leave cartridge in the printer for up to 24 hours. (Allows ink to flow to the print head). IMPORTANT – for best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately. This work is best done over the sink.

Turn the cartridge upside down. Carefully remove the black plastic film that covers the filling hole (you may need to use a small knife for this), then push in the ball bearing that seals the filling hole with a ballpoint pen or something similar.

2. Slowly inject up to 20-25ml. of the correct colour ink (black, cyan, magenta or yellow) into the filling hole.

3. Seal the filling hole by squeezing the cartridge sides (this will create a vacuum when let go) and inserting the plug seal provided into the hole. This seal must be airtight, if it is not, use some additional tape to ensure an airtight seal or the cartridge will not work. Some ink will leak from the print head.

4. Place the cartridge print head down on absorbent paper for 2 minutes to draw out any excess ink and equalize pressure in the ink chamber.

5. Fill each colour required & then place the cartridge(s) back into the printer and run a priming cycle per printer instructions or print a couple of test pages. IMPORTANT – for best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains. Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately. The filling holes are located on the top of the cartridge and are sealed with small plastic plugs. These must be removed by pushing them into the cartridge with a ballpoint pen.

2. Seal two of the filling holes with tape whilst filling one, this will prevent cross contamination of ink colours.

3. Insert the correct colour filling bottle into the filler hole of the colour to be refilled (see diagram) and push downwards into the bottom of the cartridge. Note: The cartridge contains a sponge and a slight resistance will be felt.

4. Slowly inject up to 7-10ml.of ink until the sponge is saturated. Do not reseal the filling holes. Important: Do not inject the last ml if air bubbles are present.

5. Set above a paper towel for an hour as a drip precaution. Do not allow the cartridge to touch the paper, since the paper will draw out the ink.

6. Re-insert the cartridge into the printer following the instructions in your printer manual. IMPORTANT – for best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately. This work is best done over the sink.

1. Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you can tolerate a spill. 2. Remove the identification label from the top of the cartridge. 3. Insert the needle into the appropriate filling hole and push halfway into the cartridge. Please ensure you are injecting the correct colour into the correct hole. It doesn’t matter on the black but it does with the colour cartridge. 4. Slowly inject the ink. If ink appears at the filling hole, gently pull back on the plunger to remove the excess ink. Blot the printhead with absorbent material until it stops dripping before moving onto the next colour. 5. Do not replace the identification label. 6. Ensure the printhead has stopped dripping before returning the cartridge to the printer. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions. 7. Clean the syringe & needle thoroughly for future use. If necessary leave newly filled cartridge in printer for up to 24 hours before using. IMPORTANT: Even though the cartridge prints just fine, the ink level gauge will NOT read full after a refill. IMPORTANT: For best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately. This work is best done over the sink.

INK LEVEL RESET INSTRUCTIONS

Reset Method 1: 1. Following the diagram at right, place a piece of adhesive tape covering the only the blue coloured contact (1 copper square). Make sure that only that contact is covered. *Please note that the contacts shown are coloured for illustration purposes only. 2. Place cartridge in the printer. The printer may tell you that there is a problem with your cartridge. Ignore this message. The printer may print an alignment page. If so, allow it to do so. 3. Take the cartridge out of the printer. Leave tape on first contact. Place another piece of tape over the red coloured contact. Make sure that only that contact is covered. *Please note that the contacts shown are coloured for illustration purposes only. 4. Repeat step 3. 5. Take the cartridge out of the printer for the final time. Take the remaining tape off and place back in the printer. The estimated ink level in the toolbox should read full. WARNING: Take care not to lose tape covering contacts inside the printer. This method is used at your own risk. Reset Method 2: If Reset Method 1 did not work on your printer, you can cycle cartridges through to reset the level. You will need two extra cartridges and the one you refilled. First, put the refilled cartridge in the printer. Allow it to recognize the cartridge and print an alignment page. Take that cartridge out and place in the second cartridge. Allow it to recognize it and print an alignment page. Take the second cartridge out and place the third cartridge in. Allow it to recognize and print an alignment page. Take the third cartridge out. Place the refilled cartridge back in the printer. It will print an alignment pand then the estimated ink level will be reset to full.

Put the cartridge on some paper towels in an area where you can tolerate a spill. 2. The fill holes are located under the coloured top of the cartridge. 3. Pierce through the top of the label with an old ball point pen or something similar. 4. Assemble the syringe and draw up ink of the correct colour for the chamber you are filling. 5. IMPORTANT: The cartridge contains a felt material, not sponge, so you will have to drip the ink into the appropriate chamber very slowly. The felt material will naturally draw the ink into it. Ensure the correct colour is put into the corresponding chamber. 6. When the felt is saturated, wipe away any excess ink and place a strong adhesive tape over fill holes. 7. Install cartridge and run a cleaning cycle. Please note the ink level indicator may need to be turned off, if so please follow these instructions: HP D135/D155 Black

1. Press ‘<’ and ‘>’ at the same time and release. 2. On keypad, press in order 7, 8, 9 3. When the prompt appears asking if you want to override the ink level guage, press 1 for yes

or 2 for no. HP D135/D155 Colour – As for black but substitute numbers with 4, 5, 6 HP CP1160 Black

1. While holding down the power button, press the cancel button twelve times followed by the resume button once.

2. Release the power button HP CP1160 Colour – As for black but press the resume button three times

FOR BEST RESULTS, REFILL EMPTY CARTRIDGES STRAIGHT AWAY

1. Cut label at joint between top and bottom cap of the cartridge case.

2. Flip back bottom cap of cartridge.

3. Squeeze sides of cartridge case and carefully wiggle out Mylar ink bag and pump assembly from the insert lock.

4. Screw the eyelet screw into the centre of the rubber sealing plug, (situated in the filling hole) until a firm grip is made and pull out the plug. (Keep the plug on the end of the eyelet screw)

5. Inject the ink through the filling hole into the Mylar ink bag. Do not insert the needle in more than 1.2 cm or 1/2" into the bag or else the Mylar ink bag may be punctured.

6. Fill with ink until ink appears at the bottom of the filling hole and then reseal by pushing back in the rubber plug. (Push in with the plug on the end of the screw and then remove the screw from the plug).

7. Remove the excess air from the Mylar ink bag and pump assembly as follows:

8. Hold assembly at a 45° angle with outlet hole tube at the top.

9. Insert needle of empty injector (with plunger pushed in) into outlet hole tube.

10. Press and release pump several times which will expel air into the syringe.

11. Pull back the plunger on the syringe to remove any air from the outlet hole tube and then withdraw the syringe.

12. Replace the Mylar ink bag assembly into the cartridge case and clip the bottom back into position.


13. Install the cartridge back into printer.

CLEANING THE PRINT HEAD 1. Only clean the print head if you get poor print quality or no print.

2. Be sure that you don't have an air bubble problem.

• If cleaning the print head causes the situation to get worse rather than improve, you probably have an air bubble problem.

• If you have an air bubble problem, you need to re-inject some ink very deep into the cartridge.

3. Follow the directions in the printer manual to run the cleaning routine.

4. If this doesn't work, take the cartridge to the nearest hot water TAP.

• Turn on the hot water. Let it get hot. BE CAREFUL!!!

• Put only the print head portion (where the ink comes out) under the hot water for 2 to 3 seconds only.

• Dry off the cartridge using a soft tissue.

• Re-insert the cartridge into the printer.

• Run the normal cleaning routine a few times.

TROUBLE SHOOTING HP CARTRIDGES Air in the Sponge ~ Air or foamy ink in the sponge will make the cartridge print intermittently. Fold a paper towel 4 or 5 times and press it against the print head. Wrap some rubber bands or string around the cartridge and the paper towel and let it set for one hour. This will draw ink and trapped air out of the sponge.

After the hour is up, you should have a paper towel that is soaked in ink. Wipe off the cartridge and put some more ink into it. Install in the printer, run a cleaning cycle and print some black/ colour pages.

Cartridge will not print ~ Check your print head to see if ink has dried on the surface and is blocking ink ... if so, blot the print head with a lint-free cloth and HOT, distilled water, let it dry and try again after doing the head cleaning operation as prescribed by your printer's manual. If it will still not print or print is "streaky", try alternating the head cleaning and printing several more times.

Clogged Jets ~ If you get skipping or severe banding this indicates that some of the jets are clogged. This is common with cartridges that have been empty for more than one hour. Boil some water in a kettle and pour some into a saucer. Hold the print head, just the bottom of the cartridge, in the hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Then take the cartridge to the printer while it is still warm and run a cleaning cycle and print black/ full colour pages. You may have to repeat this a few times to get it going.


Electrical Problems ~ If you are getting plenty of ink on the paper towel, but nothing is coming out of the cartridge when you try to print, then it is an electrical problem. Under the foil on the side of the cartridge, there are some electronic circuits. They are very delicate. If something has impacted on, or hit this surface, chances are the electronics are damaged. The only remedy for this is a new cartridge.


INK LEVEL RESET INSTRUCTIONS Understanding Your Printer's Estimated Ink Level: The newer Hewlett Packard printers have included in the software that comes with their printers, a "toolbox" that includes a section called Estimated Ink Level. It’s a great tool that allows you to keep track of how much ink is left in your cartridges so you don't start a big print job and run out of ink in the middle of it. The only problem is for those who wish to refill their own cartridges.

If you refill your cartridge or have someone else refill your cartridge, it will read as low or empty when you try to print with the cartridge. How does HP do it? They started embedding a serial number in the contact strip located on the back of the cartridge. The printer remembers that serial number and gives the message of low or out of ink. The internal memory is located in the printers’ firmware and is not in the software. It will remember the previous two cartridges ink level. The following pages list the various methods for the cartridges we know about.

Reset Method 2: If Reset Method 1 did not work on your printer, you can cycle cartridges through to reset the level. You will need two extra cartridges and the one you refilled. First, put the refilled cartridge in the printer. Allow it to recognize the cartridge and print an alignment page. Take that cartridge out and place in the second cartridge. Allow it to recognize it and print an alignment page. Take the second cartridge out and place the third cartridge in. Allow it to recognize and print an alignment page. Take the third cartridge out. Place the refilled cartridge back in the printer. The estimated ink level should be reset to full.



51645 (45) or C6115 (15) Reset Method 1: 1. Refill your cartridge.

2. Following the diagram at right, place a piece of adhesive tape covering only the four blue colored contacts (a contact is the individual copper square). Make sure that only those four are covered and no others.

3. Place cartridge in the printer. The printer may tell you that there is a problem with your cartridge. Ignore this message. The printer may print an alignment page. If so, allow it to do so.

4. Take the cartridge out of the printer. Remove the tape from the four blue contacts. Place the tape over the four red colored contacts. Make sure that only those four are covered and no others.

5. Follow step 3 again.

6. Take the cartridge out of the printer for the final time. Take the remaining tape off and place back in the printer. The printer should print out an alignment page and the estimated ink level in the toolbox should read full. WARNING: Take care not to lose tape covering contacts inside the printer. This method is used at your own risk.

Reset Method 2: If Reset Method 1 did not work on your printer, go through the same procedure again, but this time using the green colored contacts in step 2 and the pink colored contacts in step 4. This method is more commonly used for the C6615 or in the later OfficeJet printers.

Reset Method 3: If neither of the reset methods above worked, you can cycle cartridges through to reset the level. You will need two extra cartridges and the one you refilled. First, put the refilled cartridge in the printer. Allow it to recognise the cartridge and print an alignment page. Take that cartridge out and place in the first extra cartridge. Allow it to recognise and print an alignment page. Take the first extra cartridge out and place the second extra cartridge in. Allow it to recognize and print an alignment page. Take the second extra cartridge out. Place the refilled cartridge back in the printer. The estimated ink level should be reset to full.



The new HP OfficeJet D Series and CP 1160 Color Ink Jet series using the 14 black ink cartridges has an estimated ink level gauge that allows the user to view the amount of ink remaining in the cartridge. This gauge must be shut off in order to refill the cartridge. It is a simple procedure that can be done in the matter of seconds.

2. Press the < and > (also the + and -) at the same time, then release quickly (the LCD panel must be showing the date or the procedure will not work)

3. On the keypad, press in order 7, 8, 9.

4. A message will appear asking if you want to override the ink level gauge. Press 1 for yes (You can later turn the ink gauge back on if you install a new cartridge by going through steps 2 and 3, then pressing 2 when prompted if you want to override the ink level gauge).

Your ink level gauge is now turned off and can resume printing.

C5011A (14) Black cartridge used in the HP Color Inkjet CP 1160 Series 1. Refill your cartridge.

2. Press and hold down the power button.

3. While holding the Power button:

Press the Cancel button 12 times Press the Resume button 1 time

4. Release the Power button

The new HP OfficeJet D Series and CP 1160 Color Ink Jet series using the 14 black ink cartridges has an estimated ink level gauge that allows the user to view the amount of ink remaining in the cartridge. This gauge must be shut off in order to refill the cartridge. It is a simple procedure that can be done in the matter of seconds.

2. Press the < and > (also the + and -) at the same time, then release quickly (the LCD panel must be showing the date or the procedure will not work)

3. On the keypad, press in order 4, 5, 6.

4. A message will appear asking if you want to override the ink level gauge. Press 1 for yes (You can later turn the ink gauge back on if you

install a new cartridge by going through steps 2 and 3, then pressing 2 when prompted if you want to override the ink level gauge).

Your ink level gauge is now turned off and can resume printing.

2. Press and hold down the power button.

3. While holding the Power button:

Press the Cancel button 12 times Press the Resume button 3 times

4. Release the Power button

The ink gauge is now off and you can resume printing



Listed below are three procedures to reset the estimated ink level on a C6578 (78). One of the three will work, so if the first one doesn't, proceed to the second reset method and so on.

C6578 (78) 1. Refill your cartridge.

2. Following the diagram at right, place a piece of adhesive tape covering only the four blue colored contacts (a contact is the individual copper square). Make sure that only those four are covered and no others. *Please note that the contacts shown are colored for illustrative purposes only. You will not have blue or red contacts on your cartridge.


4. Take the cartridge out of the printer. Remove the tape from the four blue contacts. Place the tape over the four red colored contacts. Again, only those four are covered and no others. *Please note that the contacts shown are colored for illustrative purposes only. You will not have blue or red contacts on your cartridge.


6. Take the cartridge out of the printer for the final time. Take the remaining tape off and place back in the printer. The estimated ink level in the toolbox should read full. WARNING: Take care not to lose tape covering contacts inside the printer. This method is used at your own risk.

Reset Method 2 1. Refill your cartridge.

2. Following the diagram at right, place a piece of adhesive tape covering the only the blue colored contact (a contact is the individual copper square) and no others. *Please note that the contacts shown are colored for illustrative purposes only. You will not have blue or red contacts on your cartridge.


4. Take the cartridge out of the printer. Leave tape on the blue contact. Place another piece of tape over the red colored contact. Make sure that only that contact is covered and no others. *Please note that the contacts shown are colored for illustrative purposes only. You will not have blue or red contacts on your cartridge.


6. Take the cartridge out of the printer for the final time. Take the remaining tape off and place back in the printer. The estimated ink level in the toolbox should read full.

Reset Method 3 If neither of the previous reset methods above worked, you can cycle cartridges through to reset the level. You will need two extra cartridges and the one you refilled. First, put the refilled cartridge in the printer. Allow it to recognise the cartridge and print an alignment page. Take that cartridge out and place in the first extra cartridge. Allow it to recognize and print an alignment page. Take the first extra cartridge out and place the second extra cartridge in. Allow it to recognize and print an alignment page. Take the second extra cartridge out. Place the refilled cartridge back in the printer. The estimated ink level should be reset to full.
