How to Share a Folder Sarah Akintunde Computer Network Administrator (CNA1A) Introduction This manual explains how to share a folder. The folder-sharing tools allow users to share files on the network. Folder sharing enables all users to have access to a file or folder along with other computer on the network. The folder-sharing options on Windows provide the ability to set editing permissions as well as file-viewing permissions for other computers on the network. Additionally, users may specify a useful and explanatory name for the shared folder. Permissions can be assigned to different users such as denying access to some users to only have read access to a given folder through the Reader permission against allowing others the collaborator permission to modify, execute files and folder within a share. Shared Folder capabilities are useful on home networks that connect multiple computers. Personal users may share media such as audio or video among multiple computers. Small businesses may employ such networks to share folder among employees and workgroup. Instructions Network and sharing settings must be configured first to enable sharing 1. Introduction

This manual explains how to share a folder. The folder-sharing tools allow users to

folder along with other computer on the network.

The folder-sharing options on Windows provide the ability to set editing permissions as

well as file-viewing permissions for other computers on the network. Additionally, usersmay specify a useful and explanatory name for the shared folder.

Instructions

Network and sharing settings must be configured first to enable sharing

1. From start menu go to Control Panel.

2. Click on Network and Sharing Center.

3. Click on the right on Change advanced sharing settings.

4. Hide the Home or Work profile at the right arrow

5. Click the arrow at the right to show the Public profile.

6. Configure your network based on this.

Turn on network discovery.

y  Turn on file and printer sharing.

y  Turn off Public folder sharing.

 After these changes folder sharing can now be configured

Steps ±by-step direction

1. Create a new folder or click on the folder you will like to share if already have one

2. Select the folder, right click on it and select properties.

3. Click on the tab µSharing¶.

4. Click the button µAdvanced Sharing¶.

5. Place a check mark next to µShare this folder¶

6. Click the button µPermissions¶.

7. Select the user µEveryone¶

8. If user is not found, move to add the µEveryone¶ user, if the user is found youcan move to the next steps

i Click the µAdd¶ button.

ii Click the µAdvanced«¶ button.

iii Click the µFind Now¶ button.

iv Click the µEveryone¶ user from the appearing list.

V. Save all settings and close all windows

Confirming your shared folder 

From start Menu click µRun¶.

 Accessories and select Run from that list.

1. Key in µregedit¶ and press OK.

2. Search for the following location:

o  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\

3. Double click on 'everyoneincludesanonymous', change the value data to 1.

4. Double click on µNoLmHash¶ , change the value data to 0.

5. Search for the following location:o  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanS

erver\Parameters\

6. Double click on µrestrictnullsessaccess¶ , change the value data to 0.

7. Close the register editor.

8. Restart your PC to make changes.
