Folsom is viewed as a neighborhood street while Howard is the natural couplet ENTRIPS/Central SOMA Plan Eastern side is has more high-rise office and residential towers, Moscone Center, and Yerba Buena Gardens Western side is has more light-industrial use with many 2-3 story residential units and buildings Project Boundaries: Howard 3rd St to 11th St; Folsom 2nd St to 11th St

Design decisions and tradeoffs: limited roadway, how to we deliver the best project We understand current community concerns on Folsom and Howard: need to improve the sense of safety for bicycle and pedestrians, community preference for a re-envisioned street and enthusiasm behind changing the two streets, Bay Bridge traffic and congestion, parking/loading, and the perception of two-way streets as superior to one-way streets. How do we weigh public and city agency preferences? Foresee conflict with one-way v two-way option with community preference more towards 2-way but SFMTA internal preference for 1-way Perception that 2-way option includes certain options/benefits that 1-way can’t However, confident that a really great 1-way option can have many benefits as well (possibly more) – what goes into making a great street not necessarily let’s make a great 2-way street. May need to frame presentation not necessarily 1-way v 2-way but overall outcomes and benefits within the entire roadway (room for bikes, transit, wider sidewalks, etc.) Note: Central SOMA Plan EIR does not recommend a 1-way or 2-way alternative but clears alternatives for both options Huge growth in residential and employee population result in more demand for parking and loading spaces. Additionally, the project will remove a number of parking and loading spaces to a close look at the curbside management will be critical.
