Lewisville Center for the Creative Arts (MCL Grand) opened its door to the public in January 2011. The city of Lewisville created a master plan to revitalize the old town area, and the art center was one of the key features to that plan. The facility features a 296-seat the-atre with acoustics designed for both speech and music, an art gallery, a dance recital hall, a black box theater, and classrooms. It gives the many arts groups in the Greater Lewisville area a facility to perform and display their works and hosts other regional and national shows and exhibits, events, classes and meetings. What role does an art center plays in terms of reforming a community? Through the research, I realize that art related activities can induce important human values such as empathy, self-awareness, communication, and collabo-ration. These attributes can further develop a sense of community, which foster the creation or recreation of a community to adopt a changing of time. Art centers can also serve as “Safe Havens” for individuals whose talents are devalued, and provide the youth in the community a place which is free of drugs, violence, and other influences.
Theories such as New Urbanism and Placemak-ing indicate that, to form a sense of place a public space needs to have quality and characters. The space also has to provide attractions for the public, so they have a reason to be there. I included the central courtyard into my design, and turned it into a public plaza for people to gather, to play, and to relax. The interior remodeling focused on resolving the issues that the users of the building have encountered as well as the overall performance of the facility.

A Team Room (S)
Our assignment was to create a structure for a sepa-rate conference center on the site of a resort. We were given a program with loose square footage. We individ-ually picked our locations and the rest was fully devel-oped by ourselves.
The project location is set in a scuba diving resort located in Barracuda Point, Malaysia. As form giv-ers, I adopt two main reasons that attracts people to scuba dive. The first reason is to explore the world of unknown. The second one is to simply to embrace the nature; to retreat from the regular life for a while. The circular form is reminiscent of a Blue Hole, a cave (in-land) or underwater sinkhole. Curtain windows on the parameter allow the space to be immersed both in the sunlight and the views of nature surrounding the site.

concept statement
This residential project fits into the small lots
in the suburbs near Uptown area of Dallas,
Texas. The structure itself, occupies roughly
about 800 ft2, is ideal for 1 to 2 residents.
The design focused on lowering the carbon
footprint of the house. The study of sun path
determines the location and proportion of
windows placement. The wooden screen
provides privacy to the house, and controls
the amount of sunlight that goes into the yard.
Technologies such as grey water system and
solar water heater are integrated into the
design. Sustainable materials (reclaimed
or local species wood, EcoRock dry wall, green
wall, etc) are considered to construct the
house.

BONOBOS GUIDESHOP
BONOBOS GUIDESHOPmanhattan, new york
proposed floor plan
In this assignment, we were challenged to
create a Guideshop* for Bonobos. Bonobos,
founded in 2007 is a clothing company who
specialized in producing men’s outfit, and
was selling online exclusively. In 2012, Bono-
bos’ business model extended offline with
the launch of their e-commerce stores called
“Guideshops”. The concept of this project is to
create a home like environment that is remi-
niscent of an urban loft. The loft-like style
is desirable because it suits the casual but
sophisticated style of Bonobos clothing.

* The Bonobos Guideshop is an e-commerce store for men to shop the brand in person. Guideshops
display the brand’s full offering of merchandise, with sizing samples available across categories for
men to try on. Customers work individually with a Bonobos “Guide” who serves as a shopping and
styling assistant. After each appointment, visitors receive an email with their fit and style preferences.
