If you missed the Pledge

Potluck, you missed a good time and a great meal. Because of the leftovers from Nick's 95th birthday party we had a fest. Thanks to everyone who has taken their pledge envelope. A huge thanks to all who have returned their pledges already and a special thanks to those who dug deeper and contributed to the well fund. The pledge envelopes will be available at the side table next Sunday. After next Sunday, we will mail those envelopes that have not been picked up. Feel free to make any comments on the activity sheet about the budget or other issues. We also welcome suggestions. Submitted by Dianne Whitaker, [email protected].

*************************************************************************SUNDAY! OUUF Orientation MeetingOUUF will hold an orientation for new Members and Friends following the regular service today Oct. 28. We will gather in the Sanctuary after the coffee hour. The session will start with an audio-visual presentation about Unitarian Universalism, its history, and the development of Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. The presentation, drawn largely from Vivian Mulligan’s sermon of last summer, will last about 30 minutes. Jim Casey, Outreach/Membership Manager, will lead the meeting and answer

questions after the presentation. Other key Members of the Fellowship may join him. Contact James Casey, Membership Coordinator at [email protected] with questions. The session is open to everyone but is aimed at those who recently have joined OUUF or have become regular attenders. Pledge forms will be available.

Earlier this month, a man was seen on OUUF property destroying and damaging trees and shrubs and pulling up our new ground cloth.  Our neighbor, John, notified a, member who came first to the scene. The man left. Our administrator contacted the Sheriff's office to discuss the incident and file a report.  If anyone sees a suspicious person on the grounds, please contact Elinor Tennyson, OUUF Administrator, at 360.417-2665. Thanks. Rose Prestipino, Board of Trustees.

Longtime OUUF stalwart member Ellen Patrie of Sequim passed Wednesday morning in Olympic Medical Center, Port Angeles.

Chalice Lighters Fall 2018-2019

Call: Help put a new roof on the UUCCWC parish house! Members of the flourishing Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Washington County (UUCCWC) in Hillsboro, Oregon raised funds to make needed improvements to

their 1910 sanctuary. Those funds had to be diverted to cover flood damage and replace a failed sewer line. Now the roof on their multipurpose parish building is leaking.

The amount PNWDCL asks individuals to pledge is $20, but they are grateful for any amount you can contribute. Your gifts will be accepted for this call through November 19. To make your payment online to PNWD Chalice Lighters. You are encouraged to sign up for emailed call letters and to use electronic payments to lower our administrative costs.

Note: For your convenience you can donate to all three of this year’s calls at the same time if you choose to do so online. You will not receive call letters for calls to which you have already donated.

If mailed, please send your check, payable to PNWD Chalice Lighters to: PNWD Chalice Lighters, 7511 Greenwood Avenue North, #414, Seattle, WA 98103-4627. Please include the PNWD-CL designation on both your check and payment envelope.

From your Social Justice Taskforce:The Trump Administration published proposed changes to Dept. of Homeland Security's immigration rules about "public charge"; the changes would greatly undercut efforts to fight hunger and poverty by making it harder for immigrant families to access a range of nutrition, health, and housing benefits that are essential to our nation's health and well-being. The proposed sweeping new rule redefines long-standing policy that determines "public charge" for immigrants, fundamentally changing who would be able to enter and stay in the U.S.  When nearly 1 in 4 children in our country have at least one immigrant parent, this issue touches tens of millions of people. Under the proposed rule, immigrant families would be forced to

make impossible choices between accessing vital programs that safeguard their health, nutrition, housing, and economic security and keeping their family together in the U.S. The time for public comment is now. The comment period closes December 10. The Faith Action Network to which we belong has a unique faith portal to use http://bit.ly/FANopposesPublicChargeRule Please add your voice as we are supporting our brothers and sisters.

SAVE THE DATE: Ted Talk tUUesday

Ted Talk tUUesday - November 13, 2018 - OUUF - 1:00 pm Topic: Near Death Experiences

Past Ted Talk topics, based on participants' requests, have included Words, Architecture, Spring, Humor, The Brain, Time, How Things Spread, Truth and Lies, Guns, Maps, and Neil deGrasse Tyson among others.

In November, as suggested by Cynthia Green, we'll be considering Near Death Experiences. Not all videos have been selected, but these two will definitely be included:

Biophysicist Joyce Hawkes at TEDxBellevueFollowing a near-death experience, Joyce changed careers (from effects of environmental pollutants on fish cells) and embarked on an extensive exploration of indigenous spiritual and healing traditions which she incorporated in her books: Cell-Level Healing and Resonance,Emergency Physician, Thomas Fleischmann.Dr. Fleischmann sees dead people. In fact, he has seen over 2,000 humans die but brought back to life, several hundreds of them. In his talk, he shares the near-death experiences ("Nahtoderfahrungen") he witnessed as an emergency physician and tells us about one of the most drilling questions of the human kind: how it is to die.Contact: Vivian Mulligan, mailto:[email protected]

BUILDING SECURITY. Effective October 1st codes to the key lock boxes will be changed. The Board felt this is necessary due to facility buildings being left unsecured too often and the need to control who has access.  Group leaders who meet on a scheduled basis will be contacted with instructions and the new access code for entry. If you need access and are not part of a group, contact Elinor Tennyson at [email protected] or 360-417-2665.

Washington State, U.S.A.
