How Your Eastern National Cloud Account Works The old version 1 of the Passport Companion app allowed you to enter in all your visits to the official 412 units of the National Park Service. You could also add photos and captions for your photos into the app. All that data was kept inside your device (iPhone or iPad). If you performed a backup to iCloud for your device, then that data was backed up. However, you could only see your data on that one device. The new version 2 of the Passport Companion app still allows you to enter your own personal visits and photos. However, version 2 will backup that data to an Eastern National cloud storage area. This new cloud storage allows you to view all your visits and photos on all your family’s devices. In order to accomplish this, you must create a cloud account with Eastern National. Once you create a cloud account, then the existing data you entered into the old version 1 of the app will be imported into the new version 2 of the app. It will also be backed up to the Eastern National cloud storage area. Once you import your existing data into your cloud account, then you can begin viewing that data on your other devices. In order to view your data on another device, you must install version 2 of the Passport Companion App onto that other device. Then when you get to the display shown below on that device, enter in the same email address and same account password, and tap Sign In. Once you have logged into the same account on the other device, you will be able to view the data that was imported into your cloud account from your first device.

This new version 2 will allow you to add visits and photos on multiple devices that are signed into the same cloud account. For instance, while visiting a park, perhaps you and other family member all have a device with version 2 installed on it. If all of you add a visit to that park, then that creates multiple visits in that park. If you only want one visit for that park in your account, then only one of you should enter the visit. Once the visit is entered into the system, all devices can see that visit. Then all of you can take various photos and add all those photos to the same visit. One done with that park visit, then all of you can view each other’s photos on each one’s own device. Each family member can create their own account and add their own visits and photos to their own account. However, they can then only see their own visits on their own device. If desired, an individual can log out of their own account, and log into another family member’s account to see that other persons visits and photos. Then, when done, that person can log out of that account and log back into their own account.

How to Import Your Old Data into the New App Importing data from your version 1 of the app can take anywhere from a few seconds to over an hour. If you have only ever created visits, and you never added personal photos, then the process will take a minute or two. If you have added photos, then the length of time depends on the number of photos. In our testing, the importing of 433 photos with 116 visits took an hour and three minutes. Since importing a lot of photos can take so long (since it is copying it from your device up to Eastern National’s cloud storage area), it is best to do this import while accessing WiFi. If you are not using WiFi, then your data charges could be excessive. Therefore, if you are not connected to WiFi, then you may want to postpone the import until a later time. You can still access all of the park information without importing your data. You may also view your old data on the same device you used for the old version 1 of the app without importing it up to the cloud. If you have just created an account and you have visits and/or photos in the old version 1 of this app, you will see this display immediately after creating your account.

1. Tap “Yes” to begin the import process now. You can tap “No” to perform the import process later. If you tap “Yes” continue to step 3 on the next page. If you tap “No’ continue to step 2 on the next page.

2. To begin an import of your old data, tap the “More” button in the lower right corner, circled in red below. On the next display, tap on the “Import Old Data”, circled in red.

3. Whether you import immediately after creating an account or you manually perform the Import Old Data function from the “More” display, you will get to this step. Be sure you are connected to WiFi (in order to eliminate any bandwidth charges), and then tap “Start Import” at the bottom of the display.
