The order on how to prepare a crossword puzzle in the application JCross:

choose the theme and the aim of the crossword

prepare words and clues –instructions on how to guess them;

when opening JCross program ,click on „Create a grid layout ” ;

write a word which has to be guessed in a new window, write each word in a new line

(you can do that by pressing „Enter” on the keyboard after each word)

When the words, which have to be guessed have been written, press „Make the grid”’;

If the attempt fails, increase the number of squares to "Maximum grid size"

Press „Add Clues”. Choose the words from the list, which have to be guessed and write

clues in the bottom field,

Press OK. Each word needs a clue.

The created crossword should be saved as follows: by saving it as a working file and as a Web

page. Both files can have the same name.

JCloze – Gap-fill exercise

The exercises where certain words are left out are quite often used in a training process. Write

the necessary words, parts of words, letters and sentences or punctuation marks in the gaps.

The order in which you should do the exercise

Open JClose

Write or copy the text you are going to work with

Highlight the first word, which will be left out (double click on the word) ;

Press Gap and you will see the word which will be left out when doing the exercise

1. A question or explanation should be written in Clue window, this will help in case it is difficult to guess the word;

2. In Alternate correct answers you can write alternative words for the right word and these words will also be considered to be correct (a learner has to write one word from all that are mentioned here)

3. Repeat the previous steps until all the words that have to be left out in the text are prepared.

JMatch – matching exercise

JMatch is an application program that helps to create matching pairs in different combinations.

In those pairs you can include words, phases, sentences, pictures.

JMix – mixed up sentence exercise

JMix is an exercise where words and pictures are mixed, they have to be arranged in the right

order (words and/or pictures are mixed up). A learner has to click on words and pictures in that

way arranging them in the right order.

If you want to insert pictures, then first “save as” the exercise file. Pictures have to be saved in

the same folder where you will save an exercise file.

JQuiz – test creation

Multiple – choice: there are several possible answers and just one is correct

Short – answer: a learner him/herself writes the right answer

Hybrid – Questions of mixed type, where both Multiple – choice and Short answers are

combined. At the beginning a learner him/herself should write the possible right answer

(Short – answer), a certain number of attempts is given if a learner cannot guess, then this

question turns into a Multiple-choice question with just one correct answer. (Multiple-

choice).

Multi – select there are several possible answers and several may be correct.

The Masher – putting together the created exercises

The Masher offers to put together the created HotPotatoes exercises by making one big exercise,

e.g. a final test.

Choose exercises you want to mash, check the exercises before you do it

Press Add files to add exercises. If you want to delete any exercises, do it by one mouse

click, when it is highlighted press Delete file.

Press Browse to indicate where the document with all exercises is located in a

computer/folder (BE CAREFUL – remember the indicated place so that you can find the

document later).
