How to use FME Universal Translator
FME Universal Translator
• Let’s you convert geospatial data files from one format to another
• Supports over 300 spatial and non-spatial formats
• Computers in the MDL computer lab have FME installed. U of T students have access to download their own installation of the software onto their laptops
1) Start the FME Universal Translator from your Windows Start Menu.
2) Under File, click on Translate
To see which formats can be translated, click on the three dots
In the Formats Gallery window, you can either search for a format, or scroll through the list to see which formats can be converted.
Once you have selected the format of your input file, select the dataset you want to have translated.
1) You now have to select the format of your output file.
2) Select the location where the output file is to be saved.
3) Click OK to convert the file.
To see if the translation is complete and successful, consult the report. At the end, you should read “Translation complete.”
