Target AudiencesFacebook is an excellent way to share news, information, photos and videos withparents, community members and staff. Start a Facebook page that is solely used torepresent you as a Board member or that represents your school, if you are anadministrator. This should be separate from your personal account.
WHO ARE YOU COMMUNICATING WITH ON FACEBOOK?
of Hispanic adults use social media, compared to 70%of non-Hispanic whites and 75% of African-Americans.If you have a high Hispanic population in your district,

Best practices
Refrain from highly personal or political posts on
your official Facebook page. Save it for your
private account.
Do not engage parents in confidential
conversations on Facebook. Ask for/provide a
phone number immediately. Avoid FERPA
violations.
Use graphics and images - more followers will
see your posts in their timeline.

Best practices
Follow the district Facebook page and share, like
and comment on posts when you can. District
communications staff appreciate the support!
Take photos during school visits/events to post on
Facebook. Make sure students are not "opted out"
of media/online coverage before sharing their
photos.
Follow community partners on Facebook and
comment, like and engage. They will be
encouraged to reciprocate.
