How to Resize Pictures Using Photoshop CS3 1. From the Start menu, click on All Programs, Adobe Master Collection CS3 and then Adobe Photoshop CS3. 2. When Photoshop opens, click on File and then Open and select the picture that you wish to edit. 3. If a picture was taken at the highest quality, the size of the picture, as well as the files itself, are usually very large. By reducing the size of the image, the file size will decrease. From the top menu bar, click on Image and then Image Size. 4. The Image Size window will open. This will allow you to resize the picture by Document Size. For images that are going to be on the web, it is recommended that the picture be resized to a height or width no larger than 5 inches. (This if the picture is landscape, the width would be 5 inches. If the picture is portrait, the height would be 5 inches.) The aspect proportion of the picture is locked so that if you change either the height or width, the other is automatically changed in proportion to the other. 5. Once the document size has been changed, notice that the Pixel Dimensions have also been adjusted. This has made the overall file size smaller. In this example, the file has been reduced from 17.2M to 252.1K Click Ok.

How to Resize Pictures Using Photoshop CS3

6. By default, the picture on the screen may show at only 25% of  its actual size.    To show the actual size of the picture, highlight the percentage  in the lower left corner of the screen, just above the Start button.         Change this number to 100% and then hit Enter on the keyboard.   The picture will then show in its actual size

7. From the top menu bar, click on File and then Save for Web & Devices…

8. The Save For Web & Devices window will open.  From the  Preset dropdown menu, select JPEG Medium.  This will reduce the file size.  In the bottom left corner of this window, it will now show the reduced file size and how many seconds it will take to download this picture from most dial up connection speeds.  The lower the number the faster the  download.  It is recommend that file sizes be under 200k.

9. When you change from Medium to Low, High, Very High or Maximum, you’ll see the number at the bottom change.  You’ll also see the Optimized picture change slightly in quality.  If you don’t see a difference as you move down the quality scale, that’s a good sign that views to your webpage will not notice any reduction in picture quality.  Click Save when finished.  You will be prompted to rename the file.  Please be sure to rename the file something that you can identify from a list on the website.   Also, never save over your original file; if you choose to print the picture later, you will be left with only the web‐version of the picture.
