You are a very important source of information about claimants and

employers committing fraud.

For more information on UI fraud, visit the Employment Development Department’s website

at www.edd.ca.gov.

TYPESOF FRAUD

n Using another person’s identity (e.g., name, Social Security number) to work and/or file fraudulent UI claims.

nAllowing another person to use your personal identification to work and/or file fraudulent UI claims.

nCashing someone else’s UI payments.

nWorking while certifying for UI benefits, and not reporting hours of work and earnings to the EDD.

nAiding someone in filing a fraudulent UI claim.

nFalsifying information or failing to disclose information (e.g., failing to report school attendance while certifying for UI benefits).

nFabricating work search efforts.

nFailing to report other types of compensation (e.g., pension, Workers’ Compensation benefits, etc).

nFailing to report being unable and unavailable to work (e.g., ill or injured, out of the area, on vacation, etc.) and certifying for UI benefits.

nFailing to report refusals of work.

nFalsifying or failing to disclose reason for no longer working.

If you think individuals are committing UI fraud, please report it online via a secure connection at www.edd.ca.gov or call our toll-free fraud hotline at 800-229-6297. All allegations of fraud are taken seriously, and you will remain anonymous if you prefer. Please include as much of the following information as possible:

Who is committing fraud (other names used)?

What is their Social Security number?

What is their date of birth or approximate age?

What is their address?

What is their telephone number/e-mail address?

What type of fraud are they committing? (Working? Self-employed while certifying for UI benefits? Not looking for work? Certifying for UI benefits using someone else’s Social Security number?)

When did they start doing this?

Where do they receive their benefit payments?

Where do they cash their benefit payments?

If they are working, what is the employer’s name, address, and telephone number?

What is your name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number? (optional)
