FOREWORD

It has been informed you in TTI-2554 and 2554-1 that the production of Rotary switch, used for the D Series and

TLFDII Series as Needle position detector for a long time, has been discontinued and that an Absolute encoder

has been applied instead as the Needle position detecting part for the machines, manufactured in October 2000

or later.

We have a certain amount of Rotary switches for the maintenance parts in stock, however, continuous part

supply will not be available due to the discontinuation of the part production.

Therefore, you are requested to replace Rotary switch with Absolute encoder when you need to repair customer-

installed machines.

This document describes the instructions how to mount Absolute encoder and how to conduct wiring.

We will be pleased if it is helpful to you for reference when you replace parts or repair machines.

B. How to mount Absolute encoderThis document is not only focused on the adjusting procedure and instructions how to modify Needle position

detector from Rotary switch to Absolute encoder, but also illustrates the instructions how to adjust the currently

mass-produced models, equipped with Absolute encoder from the very beginning of shipment.

This chapter regards the second needle as the reference needle position when mounting Absolute encoder in

order to facilitate the procedure to fix screws. If you find color change operation unstable or other inconvenience

after mounting it, please shift the reference needle position to the needle position in the middle of Needle bar

case (for example, the 6th or 7th needle for 12-needle models) and remake adjustment.

1. How to position change cam

(1) Change the color manually to the second needle and turn OFF main power supply.

(2) Remove the Front cover of Color change system.

(3) Rotate the part A with a spanner etc. as illustrated below. Change cam also rotates and the part B moves to

the right or left along the Spiral groove. Spiral groove has a linear section, where B does not move even when

A rotates. Stop A at the position around the center of the linear section with the second needle selected.

(4) Check whether the second needle and the center of needle hole align on the same line or not.

[Note]Conduct alignment in the same way,

irrespective of the type of Colorchange system.

(5) Check whether the detecting plate of 1-turn switch collar is positioned at the center of detecting part of 1-turn

detector (Photo-interrupter).

If the detecting plate is not correctly positioned, loosen Fixing screw of 1-turn switch collar and adjust the position.

2. How to change the position of Color change motor

If the harness of Color change motor is positioned at the top right corner (when viewed from the machine right

side), rotate only Color change motor only by 90 degrees without rotating Gear box. (excluding D Series,15-

needle models)

3. How to remove Rotary switch and to mount Absolute encoder1) Loosen Rotary switch pin (the shaft to mount Rotary switch) or Hexagon socket head set screw of Knurled

screw and remove Rotary switch. Then remove Rotary switch stay.

(2) Mount Base stud to the position, where Rotary switch stay was positioned.

(3) Mount Coupling to the shaft of Absolute encoder with the measurements, illustrated below:

(4) Mount Connecting pin with the following measurements.

Note) This operation is only for customer-installed machines to be modified to Absolute encoder specification.

(5) Mount Encoder base to Absolute encoder.

5. How to adjust needle position display position

(1) If there is a marking line on 1-turn switch collar, rotate the shaft, located at the side of Color change system,

with a spanner etc. toward the 3rd needle and position the marking line on 1-turn switch collar to the center of

detecting part of 1-turn detector.

If there is no marking line, you do not need to move the position of 1-turn switch collar.

(2) Turn ON the main power supply and set Operation panel to display the needle position.

(3) Rotate the Coupling with radio pliers etc. and search reference position of needle position display.

[Note] Please note that the reference position varies, depending on whether 1-turn switch collar has a marking

line or not.

1) When there is a marking line on 1-turn switch collar

The position, where needle position display changes from 3 to 2

2) When there is no marking line on 1-turn switch collar

The center of the section, where needle position display on the Operation panel shows 2.

(4) Fix Hexagon socket head set screw on the coupling or Rotary switch pin

(5) Rotate the shaft, located at the side of Color change system, with a spanner etc. and set the 1-turn switch

color so that the detecting part of 1-turn detector detects the needle position.

(6) Attach the cover of Color change system and complete the mounting operation.

The outline of measured wave forms or routing channel of Needle position display harness on the Operation

panel is available also for other models in common.

1. How to measure various types of signals

(1) Signal names and measuring points

Measure the channel between Connector pin and CP on D Joint13 card with an oscilloscope.

Measure with an oscilloscope Pin Nos. 2, 9, 10, 11 and 12 of CN3 [COLOR] at plus side and T1 of C1 at minus

side.

1-turn-sugnal is 0V.
