1. THE COLD WAY
This is probably the safest method to use - simply place
your Candelabra or candle stick holder into the freezer!
About an hour should do the trick.
The wax will harden, become brittle and shrink allowing
you to pick, tap or knock it off.
You can tap a metal candelabra against a rolled up towel to knock off the wax,
but this is not suggested for glass or crystal candelabras.
TIP - When you take the candelabra out of the freezer make sure your hands
are dry not wet so they don't stick to the Candelabra!
or use gloves (but pick thin ones so your hands don't become clumsy in the
thickness of the fabric.)
For the hard to reach places, you can also use a soft
implement like a wooden skewer or chopstick to
help loosen the candle wax, or a soft plastic like
takeaway cutlery.

Do not use metal or hard plastics as this will scratch your candelabra.
To be on the safe side cover the implement you use with a soft cloth so that it
does not directly contact the candelabra.
But what if your candelabra is too big for
your freezer?
(or maybe you just have a small freezer… or
it’s already full of ice cream! ;)
You could fill a bucket (or the laundry tub
with party ice and put the candelabra in
there.
Choose a rectangular bucket if your Candelabra is too wide for a general household round bucket. Take care if the candelabra has a soft felt base as the
water may damage the felt and/or glue - if this is the case
keep the base out of the ice, and also wrap it in cling wrap or a plastic bag for
extra protection.

TIP - any remaining wax residue can be removed after
the candelabra is at room temperature - this is
especially important for glass and crystal candelabras -
you must wait this they are back to room
temperature!
Then use a little dishwashing soap in warm water and a soft cloth to wipe of
any remaining residue.
TIP - if using the ice method, don't let any wax go down the drain as they will
clog up your drain.
Remember: allow your Candelabra to return to room
temperature gradually, do not apply heat at any point,
certain materials like glass, will crack under sudden changes
in temperature.

2. THE HOT WAY
Another way to get wax off a candelabra or
candlestick holder is to melt it off.
Caution this requires care so that you don't
burn yourself!
1. You can sit the candelabra in a pot of hot or boiling water,
or pour boiling water over the candelabra
Then use a soft bristled plastic brush to get the large bits off; and a soft cloth in
hot soapy water to rub off the remaining residue.
Be careful if the candelabra has a soft felt base not to get any water on it as the
water may damage the felt and/or glue.
If this is the case keep the base away from the water you will probably want to
hang on to it as you work anyway so wrap it in cling wrap or a plastic bag for
extra protection.

2. You can use a hair dryer
heating a little section at a time
and wipe the wax off as you go.
3. You can also place the candelabra in
an oven on a piece of aluminum foil at a
low heat. Check on it regularly and
remove the wax once it melts.
TIP - be very careful when handling your candelabra - it will be HOT!! Use
oven mitts to protect yourself, but keep these dry as fabric does not insulate
against heat as well if it is wet.
TIP - if using the boiling water method don't let any wax go down the drain as
they will clog up your drain.

3. THE WOODEN WAY
If fire and ice are not for you,
here is number 3:
the wooden way
- this is the way of patience!
Basically you will have to sit and scratch or tap off
the wax by hand,
the trick is NOT to use any sharp implements, no metal or
hard plastics otherwise you will scratch your candelabra.

How do you stop wax getting stuck to your candelabra or candlestick holder in the future?
Stop the problem from happening in the first place! – No more dripping Wax…
1. Use drip less Candles!
2. You can put a thin film of water in the candle holder before you put the
candle in that way there is less chance the wax will stick to the inside, but

What are Bobeche ?
Bobeche are a beautifully elegant way of avoiding Candle Wax from dripping down all over your Candelabra Centerpiece or Candle holder.
Simply put they are “collar rings” typically made of glass, crystal or metal, they catch the wax on your candelabra, so that it doesn’t drip all over the Candelabra arm or onto your furniture or table cloth.
Bobeche can be beautifully decorative with hanging crystals, engraved designs and fancy shapes,
but they also come in less ornate formats
just as simple ‘dish’ like rings that will blend in the design of your candelabra or candlestick holder

On some Bobeche you can remove the hanging crystals making them a versatile decor item
as well as keeping their function of stopping dripping wax.
