HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 4-H COMMUNICATION CONTEST?
CONTEST JUDGINGAny Junior Fair Exhibitor (4-H, FFA, or FCCLA) is eligible to participate in the 4-H hosted Junior Fair Communication Contest. Members will be able to submit video speech & demonstrations based on the guidelines below. Instructions are provided for Flipgrid, however with the various levels of experience using technology, we will leave it up to the 4-H member to decide how to create their video.
REMEMBER this is not about the quality of the video but the knowledge and presentation shared by the exhibitor.
If a member does not have video capabilities: Contact a neighbor, advisor, older member, or the Extension office for help! We want all members to have the opportunity to compete and can gladly help find a way to help members create a successful video.
CONTEST SUBMISSION & DEADLINETo be eligible for county awards, speeches & demonstrations must be submitted via video by MIDNIGHT Wednesday, July 15th. Video Submissions will open Wednesday, June 24th. Use Flipgrid: https://flipgrid.com/cccc2020 password: ccfair2020 or Upload video to Google Drive and share [email protected]
CONTEST AWARDSTo be eligible for county awards, projects must be submitted via video by the deadline. Where applicable, contest will be broken down into two age divisions; Junior (8-13) and Senior (14+) as of January 1.
o Awards for: Best Junior Speech, Best Senior Speech, Best 4-H Pledge, Best Junior IndividualDemonstration, Best Senior Individual Demonstration, Best Junior Team Demonstration, Best SeniorTeam Demonstration
o All cloverbud participants will be recognized
CONTEST CATAGORY GUIDELINES
Persuasive Speech• Speeches are to be written/prepared and presented by the youth giving the speech.• Contestants will be judged on content, organization, visual delivery and vocal delivery. No visual aids are
permitted in the individual speeches.• Senior speech length should be between 4.0 to 5.5 minutes in length. Junior speech length should be
between 2.5 to 4.0 minutes.• Appropriate dress is required for all participants. The use of costumes is not permitted.

CONTEST CATAGORY GUIDELINES CONTINUED
4-H Pledge• Contestants 10 years old and younger (Cloverbuds are not eligible) are to recite the 4-H Pledge, including
hand motions. They will be judged on voice, stage presence, power of expression and general effect.
4-H Cloverbuds ChatsCloverbud members can participate in the Jr. Fair Speech Contest for fun and will receive a token of participation.
• Cloverbuds will be asked to share the following information in their video:o Participants Nameo Participants 4-H Club Nameo Participants favorite thing about the fair
Jr. & Sr. Demonstrations• Junior demonstrations may not use technology. Senior demonstrations may be with or without
technology.• Members using computer generated or other audio visual equipment will need to incorporate it into
their presentation using the video platform of their choice.• Demonstrations should not exceed 10 minutes in length.• Individuals may select any topic for his or her demonstration. NO LARGE ANIMALS OR WEAPONS
PERMITTED.• If in this contest more than one year, participants will be expected to present a different demonstration
or talk each time.

that same background throughout the slides.q Do not pack too much information on one slide.q Limit of 15 slide advancementsq Limit the use of wild colors and animations – they
could be a distraction from your message.q Use appropriate fonts, colors, and pictures that
match your topic – continue color schemethroughout.
