Ingredients These are the basic ingredients for a volcano. They can be purchased from any store. I purchased these from Walmart for under five dollars.

Step OneTake all of the Playdough out of the cans and put them into a cookie sheet, or any type of container with deep sides. Mix it together so that it forms a large ball. If you don’t get the playdough mixed, the vinegar will eat through the sides.

Step TwoRoll your hands around the playdough to form an upside down cone. Be sure to have an adult help you hold the pan or it will slide when you do this.

Step ThreeTake a straw, fold it in half, and insert the bent half into the playdough like you see above.

Step FourPress the straw all the way down, but be sure not to poke a hole in the bottom. If you do poke a hole, be sure to redo the previous steps so that your vinegar will come out of the top.

Step FivePress the sides of the straw around in the playdough until you have a circle hollowed out in the middle like you see above.

Step SixAdd about 2 tablespoons full of baking soda. Be sure to get in all inside the hole.

Step SevenDo not push the baking soda in the hole, let it mound up inside the hole. This will insure the proper reaction when the vinegar mixes with it. Also, if you have red food dye, this is where you add it. We didn’t use this due to an allergy.

Step EightPour the vinegar into the hole of the volcano. We used about a half of one cup.

Step NineERUPTION! Watch as the baking soda and the vinegar react to form the eruption of the volcano!
