Single user licensing To license your Novapoint software on a stand-alone computer, you must install a hardware lock driver, a hardware lock, and a license file.

Install license hardware lock This section includes information for installing the license hardware lock on a stand-alone computer. To install the hardware lock on a stand-alone computer

1. Click the Install License Hardware Lock Driver link on the Licensing Novapoint page. On the HASP HL Device Driver Installation page, click Next.

2. When the installation is finished, select Restart and click Finish.

3. Insert the hardware lock in your computer.

4. Copy the license file to a folder on your local hard drive.

5. Running on Windows XP: Start Novapoint Running on Windows Vista: Right-click the Novapoint start icon and select Run as administrator

6. In the FLEXlm license finder dialog select Specify the license file and click Next

7. Browse to the location of your license file, select this file and click Next

The license file is delivered separately from your Novapoint distributor.

Uninstall license hardware lock To uninstall the Licence Harware Lock Drivers,

1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2. For Windows XP. In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs. For Windows Vista. In the Control Panel, double-click Programs and Features

3. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select HASP Device drivers, and then click Remove or Uninstall.

4. Follow the instructions.

For Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Alladin USB Lock Driver installed: 1. Browse the installation CD to the \License\Aladdin_USB folder. 2. Run hinstall.exe with parameter “–remove”.

For Windows XP Service Pack 1 or lower and for Windows 2000: Start Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs. Uninstall Macrovision FLEXid Drivers. If you are running on older versions of the FLEXid Drivers, use the FLEXidClearUtility.exe found on the installation CD.

Network licensing In order to run your Novapoint application as a network installation, a license server is required.

License server system requirements The hardware and software requirements for the license server are:

License file retrieval Before you install the license server, you need a valid license file. This can be retrieved by emailing your Novapoint distributor. In order to generate the license file, the Host Name and Mac address on the network card must be known.

Retrieving the Host Name and Mac address

At the server, type IPCONFIG /all in a DOS box. The Mac address can be found as the Physical Address, without the hyphen.

It is also possible to use NBTSTAT –a <servername> from a random workstation. The last line of the printout displays the Mac address.

As an alternative, it is possible to use to tools provided on the Novapoint CD. Start up lmtools.exe on the license server (found in the License\FLEXlm_Network folder). Select the System Settings tab where the system settings needed to generate a valid license file can also be found:

Note: If the license server has more than one network card, make sure any virtual network cards are removed. Any other physical network card may be selected. Your Novapoint distributor will need the following information to generate a valid license: • The product name, and quantity. • Server name (host name). • Host ID number (also called ”Ethernet Address”, ”Mac Address” or ”Physical Address”). • An email address where you want to receive the license file.

Install network license manager To install the network license manager, insert the Novapoint DVD into the license server’s DVD drive. The Novapoint Launcher starts automatically. If not, run the file setup.exe on the DVD drive. (It is recommended to install and run the Novapoint License Service as a separate service. Merge the Novapoint License into other license services may cause problems)

1. Click the Install Network License Manager link on License Novapoint page in the Launcher to start the InstallShield Wizard for the network license manager.

2. On the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Network License Manager page, click Next.

3. On the Custom Setup page, select the Novapoint_License feature to be installed on local hard drive. Specify the directory for installation of the network license manager. This directory will henceforth be referred to as [License Directory]. Click Next.

4. On the Ready to Install the Program page, click Install.

5. On the InstallShield Wizard Complete page, click Finish.

Start the network license manager To start the network license manager

1. Start the lmTools program by selecting Start->Programs->Novapoint License->lmTools (or start it from the InstallShield Wizard as described above).

2. Select the Config Services tab.

3. Create a name for the Service Name, e.g. “Novapoint License Service”.

4. Set the Path to the lmgrd.exe file to be [License Directory]\lmgrd.exe.

5. Set the Path to the license file to be [License Directory]\License\[License File], where [License File] is defined freely, but must have .lic or .dat extension. This is the file you receive from your Novapoint distributor.

6. Set the file name and path to the debug log file to be [License Directory]\Log\[Log File], where [Log File] is defined freely, but must have .Log extension.

7. It is recommended to run the license server (lmgrd.exe) as a Window Service, thus tick the Use Services.

8. It is recommended to automatically start the network license manager (lmgrd.exe) when restarting the server, thus tick Start Server at Power Up.

9. Click Save Service.

10. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

11. Select the Novapoint License Server and click Start Server.

12. Exit from the lmTools program.

Redirecting the Novapoint client

Every Novapoint client needs to know about the license server. On the Novapoint client:

13. Running Windows XP: Start Novapoint Running Windows Vista: Right click the Novapoint start icon and select “Run as administrator” (note: this is required only at first start up)

The FLEXlm License finder will ask where to find the license file / license server

1. Select Specify License Server and click Next

2. Enter the name of the license server and click Next. By doing this, FLEXlm will place the Server Name in the Registry, e.g. as this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager “NOVAPT_LICENSE_FILE” “@testpc4”.

Note: There are many different options on how to assign the servername etc. For details, see the FLEXlm End User Guide.

Other licensing issues As default the client machine will search for the license server using port 27000 trough 27009. If you want to specify a specific port number you will have to edit the license file on the License Server and make sure the client uses the same port number: Edit license file on the License Server:

1. Open the License file in Notepad 2. Add the desired port number (eg. 27001) at the end of the first line:

SERVER testpc4 0050568220F8 27001

On the Client computer: 1. Open the registry editor to modify the FLEXlm License Manager registry setting:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager] 2. Modify the Novapoint License File key value:

NOVAPT_LICENSE_FILE="27001@testpc4" An alternative to edit the registry is using the License server search path tool found in the start menu: Programs – Novapoint - Tools

Make sure your firewall is configured to allow traffic on your desired port. This has to be configured on both server and client It is not recommende to have more than one license file in the sane folder.

Upgrade from Novapoint 16.X

Network License Manager installed with Novapoint 16.X is FlexLM version 9.2. Novapont 17.X includes

FlexLM 11.4 and your Network License Manager may be upgraded to the latest version.

Note: The license system will be unavailible for the users during the upgrade process.

1. Make sure all borrowed licenses are returned to the server

2. Retrieve a new license file for Novapoint 17.X from your Novapoint distributor.

3. Start the lmTools program by selecting Start->Programs->Novapoint License->lmTools.

4. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

5. Click Stop Server and wait while LmTools terminates the License server. If there currently are borrowed licenses tick “Force Server Shutdown”

6. Exit LmTools.

To upgrade the network license manager, insert the Novapoint DVD into the license server’s DVD drive. The Novapoint Launcher starts automatically. If not, run the file setup.exe on the DVD drive.

7. Click the Install Network License Manager link on the License Novapoint page in the Launcher to start the InstallShield Wizard for the Network License Manager.

8. Click Yes to upgrade Network License Manager. On the Network License Manager InstallShield page, click Next to complete the installation.

9. Replace your old license file with the new one.

10. Start LmTools, select the Start/Stop/Reread tab and clikc Start Server.

11. Exit LmTools.

Uninstall network license manager To uninstall the network license manager

1. Start the lmTools program by selecting Start->Programs->Novapoint License->lmTools.

2. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

3. Click Stop Server.

4. Do one of the following:

• For Windows XP. On the Start menu, click Control Panel. • For Windows 2000. On the Start menu, click Settings -> Control Panel.

5. In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

6. In the Add or Remove Programs window, select Network License Manager in the list, and then click Remove.

7. (Delete the folder [License Directory] with all subfolders and files.)

8. Update registry. FLEXlm stores on all locations where a valid license has been checked out in registry.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager\

Key: NOVAPT_LICENSE_FILE.

9. Delete the content of this key to reset license storage path.

The following table shows a short description of the various fields. For more detailed information, see the FLEXlm End User Guide.

ServerName and Host ID

Binds the license to a particular server.

VendorDaemon The name of the server-side Novapoint license daemon.

IncrementName Name of the Novapoint module

VendorName Name of the Novapoint vendor daemon (NOVAPT)

Version The product license version

ExpirationDate The license is valid until this date.

NumberOfLicense Specifies the number of maximum allowed users of a given license, hosted on this particular server.

VENDOR_STRING= Defines a vendor specific configuration setting.

DUP_GROUP= Defines how the server does or does not handle the sharing of multiple license requests. Default for Novapoint applications is Host and User, meaning that the same user on a given host can use multiple copies of the same license.

ISSUED= The date when the license file was generated by your Novapoint distributor.

NOTICE= An optional field used for company information.

SIGN= The encrypted signature used to authenticate the attributes of the license file.

Note: Make sure the formatting of the license file is as displayed above. In some configurations, line shift is not treated correctly, making the license file unreadable to the license server.

Adding extra licenses to an existing license file Adding new licenses to an existing license file is done manually by copying the content of the new file to the existing file at the server. Copy the block from the new file starting with INCREMENT into the existing license file. Users can only add extra licenses to an existing license file in case the HOSTID is the same. Note: You must stop and restart the license service to make the changes take effect, using lmtools.exe. It is not necessary to reboot the server.
