Overview

This Guide will help you in installing Ubuntu 12.04 version – fresh install.

Step 1: Choose Installation Language

Choose the language to be installed.

Step 2: Choose Installation Type

Choose the installing type, typically Install Ubuntu Server for current system install.

Choose the language to be used for the installation process.

Step 4: Select your Location

Choose the location is typically used to set time zone and system locale for installing the location related

help files.

Step 5: Configure the Keyboard - Detect keyboard

Keyboard can be detected by the installer; we can choose it manually by choosing the option “<No>”

Step 6: Configure the keyboard – Manual

Choose the keyboard that needs to be configured, typical your language.

Step 7: Configure the keyboard Layout

Configure the Keyboard layout according to the machine operating system.

Step 8: Configure the network – hostname

Enter the hostname to be set for the computer where you are installing the operating system.

Step 9: Setup users

Set the user name that needs to be created upon installation process.

Set the password for the user

Re-enter the password for the user

Step 12: Encrypt Home Directory

Users home directory can be encrypted for better security, else choose option “<No>”

Step 13: Configure the Clock

Set the time zone the installation process would detected automatically, if you time zone is not correct

select “<No>” option to set it manually.

Choose the type partition method (guided or Manual partitioning) that you would like to opt.

Step 15: Partition Disks (LVM)

To reconfigure the disks for the partition table for the disk, changes have to written, typically if you are

not upgrading choose the option “<Yes>” also validate the disk that gets listed.

Choose the option “<Yes>” to configure LVM.

Step 17: Partition Disks (LVM) - Size

Set the partition size to be configured for the operating system.

Configured disk is listed, validate reconfigured disk before and after; To accept the changes choose the

option “<Yes>”

Step 19: Configure Package Manager

Set the Package Manager location, else click on “<Continue>”.

Choose the method for managing upgrades on the system; typically we could set “No automatic updates”

Choose the additional software(s) to be installed along with the OS installation, optionally you could

choose “OpenSSH server”

Step 22: GRUB Boot Loader

Install the boot loader, choose the option “<Yes>”

Select the option “<Continue>” to complete the installation process and to reboot the system, ensure

that you remove installation media.
