You can increase your chances of launching a respectable career in the healthcare industry by getting your medical transcription certification . Once upon a time training was not needed to gain employment as a medical transcriptionist. Today, though it is still not a requirement, it is becoming increasingly difficult to secure a job as a medical transcriptionist without the recommended training and certification. Even if you do manage to get a job, odds are that you will earn far less than your certified counterparts. Certification in this field is offered through the Association for healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI). Information on the certification process can be found on their website. There are two parts to the certification process offered by the AHDI. The first part of the process offers certification as a Registered Medical Transcriptionist or RMT. The second stage of certification offered by AHDI establishes you as a Certified Medical Transcriptionist or CMT. You can register for either examination without doing a medical transcription course but you may encounter more difficulty in the exam than someone who has been trained. After successfully complete the first level of the exam you receive certification as a registered medical transcriptionist. At least two years of experience is necessary before you can take the second level of the exam to gain certification as a certified medical transcriptionist. Certification is possible without going to a medical transcription school, but two years of experience is necessary before taking the exam for final medical transcription certification. This required experience will be hard to get without relevant training from a medical transcription school. Training and Employment As mentioned before you will face tremendous difficulty to gain employment without relevant training. It is therefore recommended that you visit the AHDI website for a list of approved schools to begin your training course in medical transcription. Classes are usually flexible and you will have a choice between studying online and a traditional classroom setting. Because the job of a medical transcriptionist is much more than just transcribing notes, the position may call for administrative or secretarial skills. It is therefore suggested if you do not already have these skills, you also register to take courses in secretarial or administrative studies to better prepare you for the duties of a medical transcriptionist. This will be an added advantage to you during the job seeking process as this will set you apart from less qualified candidates. Finally after receiving your medical transcription certification , you are well on your way to establishing a meaningful career in the medical field. You will also open yourself up for the opportunity to make more money as a medical transcriptionist as your experience grows. Typically, you can look forward to earning anywhere between twenty and forty thousand dollars with the capacity to earn more depending on the volume of work you are able to take on.
