How to Import PST File to Exchange 2016

Need to Import PST to Exchange ServerAfter Backup Exchange Server Mailboxes are stored in PST file.

After recovery of an Exchange Server, It need to import PST file.

In case of Migration from Older Version of Exchange Server to Newer Version.

Corrupted Mailbox Items Can be Replaced By Importing PST File

Pre-requisitesAdministrator User Account

Shared Folder with Read Permission

Available Space on Exchange Server Database

Steps to Import Exchange 2016 Mailbox

Step 1Click on Start Menu and Search for Exchange Management Shell (EMS)

Step 2Now Assign Permission to Administrator user for Editing Active Directory.

Run this command:

New -ManagementRoleAssignment -Role “Mailbox Import Export” -User “Domain/Administrator”

Step 3Now Copy PST file and Paste it into the Shared Folder.

Note: Exchange Trusted Subsystem Group should have at least read permission for importing emails and other data items from PST file.

Step 4Now run below command in EMS to Import Emails & other items from PST file to Live Exchange Server Mailbox.New-MailboxImportRequest -Filepath \\ServerName\SharedFolderName\FileName.PST

Step 5Now Check Status of Running Import Process. Because in case of Large PST file It may take a long time.

Run Below command in Exchange Management Shell

Get-MailboxImportRequest

Alternate Way to Import PST to Exchange Mailbox

Import Exchange 2016 Mailbox using a ToolIf you find that above described solution is not working for you then you may go with a tool to Import PST file to Exchange Server.

The tool name is SysTools Exchange Import.

You will get many advanced features and functionalities with importing like: Bulk Import PST file to Exchange, Option for Selective PST Import, & Generates Import Report etc.
