Hello and welcome to a new Episode from GoldenRetrieverTrainingTips.Net

Today we are going to talk about:

How is a Golden Retriever Different from Other Breeds

The Golden Retriever breed is a favorite among families with children. They are known for their gentleness, playfulness, and loyalty. Golden retrievers are fast learners, and make great family friends, and there are so many things you could teach them.

Another good trait is their love of water, most retrievers will dive right into a pool or stream to fetch a tennis ball or favorite toy, and they are skilled swimmers.

Golden retriever training can be easier than with other, more hyper breeds, as they are eager to please their human friends.

A good game to teach your retriever is fetching, as this breed has the instinct to chase and fetch, hence the name 'retriever'. Simple commands should be used, such as "come", "fetch", or "drop", or words of your own choosing.

Remember to use the same words in those commands for each family member, so the dog won't be confused if you tell him to "chase", and your teenager says "fetch". You can use each command with a simple hand signal as well, which will enhance the training.

Make sure to reward good behavior with a small treat or hugs!

For bad behavior, simply ignoring the dog for a short time would suffice, turn away and say "no". Then your dog will want to please you even more when you turn your attention to him once again.

The best thing to remember about training is to be relaxed and have fun with your golden retriever. You are sure to share many laughs with your dog; they do have a sense of humor, too! Once in a while, during a playful game of fetch, he may not bring that ball back, but instead run around you and taunt you into a game of his, "chase me!”.

Golden retrievers really do make excellent friends, and their easy going attitude is great for children, too.
