IntroIntroHave you ever wondered what to do with that ugly plastic box

frame you thought would solve all your photo display problems??

Or, what about all the extra embroidery thread yo uhave laying around, left over from your last project?

Here’s a fun, easy idea for transforming that string and box frame into beautiful work of art!

The most common question about this projects is where to get the specialty art papers. At the end of this ebook, there is a list of resources.

Send me photos of you work! I will put them on my website. Here’s your chance to share your creations with the world!

Questions? Email me at [email protected], or contact me through my website, www.LoriKreinStudios.com

Supplies and PrepSupplies and Prep You will need:

– One piece of decorative art paper, any color (lokta paper works best for this project) – Plastic box frame (I used 5x7, but 4x6 can work too)– String, thread or yard– Tootsie-pop sticks– One inch, flat paint brush– Scissors – Acrylic matte medium mixed with water (3/4 medium, ¼ water) – Paper towels, small container of water, rag or old towel

To prepare for this project, cover a table with newspaper or an old tablecloth. Freezer paper taped to a cookie sheet works well.

Wear an apron or old clothing.

String AssemblageString Assemblage Remove the cardboard backing from the frame. Cover the

box frame with paper. Cut to size, apply the glue, then wrap the paper around the front and sides of the frame.

Wrap the round sticks with newspaper, magazine paper, or wrapping paper…anything works for this part!

Glue the sticks together (this is a bit tricky…have patience.)

Wrap the sticks with the thread, yard, or string, tie at the bottom.

Find an old piece of jewelry that would give the piece a little “bling”, and glue it to the front of the string.

Create a clay tile with the word “friend” or “family” or any other word you find inspiring. If you don’t have a clay tile, you can simply glue a work cut from a magazine onto a small piece of foam core, then glue this onto the top of the box frame.

Add embellishments onto the sides or corners, if you are so inspired!

You can find lots of decorative art papers on the internet. Some companies offer a sample book of the papers they sell. This will make it much easier for you to determine the texture of the various papers available.

Cut the corners of the paper to make it easier to wrap around

the box frame.

I used longer string for this

one.

Here, I turned the sticks vertically

and added threads to the background.

But which papers should you buy?? Over the years, I have learned what work best for me by trial and error. But my

favorites are Lokta, Japanese Lace, Mulberry, Thai Mango, and Banana paper.
