1. Right click on the wireless icon, choose “view Available Wireless Networks”.

2. If you cannot find any wireless networks like this, that means Windows XP is not managing the wireless connections. You will need to turn that on.(in slide-5)

3. Click on “Change Advanced settings”

4. Click on “Wireless Networks” tab

5. Click to check on this checkbox

6. Click “View Wireless Networks”.

7. Now you should see some wireless networks. Choose the one that you know, with the strongest signal strength. Click on it.

7a. Click “Connect”

8. It will ask for your network key string. Find it on your wireless AP and type it in here.

9. Now it should be trying to connect

10. When it successfully connected, you should see this.

11. This wireless icon looks good now.

12. [optional:] Place you cursor at the wireless icon and you should see this message.

13. [optional:] To ensure network connectivity, click on “Start”, choose “Run”, then type in “cmd”, click OK to start the Command Prompt window, which looks like above.

14. [optional:] Ping google.com to test the connectivity

15. [optional:] enter “ipconfig /all” to examine your network settings

16. If it still does not work, right click on the wireless icon and choose “Repair”, it will turn off radio and turn it back on to try to repair it.

17. If wireless connection is OK, but you cannot load a webpage like google.com, please make sure you have a valid DNS server IP address here. If not, check the AP’s config by following a separate tutor slides.

19. choose “properties”.

18. If it still doesn’t work, check on the wireless AP settings like key and security suite. Open Control Panel, choose “Network Connections”. Right click on “Wireless Network Connection”.

20. Choose a wireless AP’s profile you want to examine or change, then click “Properties” button

21. Choose “WPA-PSK” and “AES”, type in the correct AP network key, which can be found on top of your AP router.

22. Click OK

24. Right click and choose “Properties”

25. Click on “Refresh network list”

26. Click on the AP you know, with the strongest signal, click “Connect”. Repeat step-7 at slide-6.

28. Once connected, you should be able to ping google.com

Sometimes you may need to use ThinkVantage client to manage your wireless connection. Click on “Start” button and choose the “ThinkVantage” program. Notice that the AP profiles you set up here is in parallel to those profiles used by Windows XP, and the settings needs to match with each other.

1. Click on “Find” to search for existing AP’s

2. Here you find a list of AP’s and their signal strength in relative positions. Click on the one with highest signal, then click the “Connect” button at below.

3. If connection failed, click on “Manage” to examine or change AP profile settings

4. Enter the AP’s name

5. Then click on “Wireless Settings” tab

6. Choose “WPA-PSK”

7. Click on “Properties”

9. Type in the AP network key, which can be found on the AP

10. Click “OK”

8. Leave everything blank as defaults

9. Click on “OK”

10. Click on “Connect” button, it should start the connect process.

Once successfully connected, it should look like this.

You may want to do a network speed test, to verify your network connection download and upload speeds. Go to http://speakeasy.net/speedtest
