How to Connect to Amazon Alexa

Before you begin

Complete setup for your Smart Hub and App following the steps in the Smart Shades User Guide.

Connect your smart phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Amazon devices.

Download and install the latest software updates for your smart home devices. Check the app store on your device to ensure you have the latest version of the app.

NOTE: It is important that you have added all your smart shades and created all desired scenes in the app before attempting to add voice control.

Link the Smith & Noble App to Amazon Alexa

①Open the Smith & Noble App.

Go to Settings in the Smith & Noble App and tap on Online Mode.

Make sure Synchronization is turned on.

The Smart Assistant option will now be detected.

② Open the Amazon Alexa App.

Tap on the menu icon at the top left corner of the screen.

You will need to find and enable the Smith & Noble Smart Shades skill on the Alexa app in order to operate your shades using Alexa.

③ Select Skills & Games from the menu.

④ Open the search box to search for the ‘Smith & Noble’ skill.

⑤ Once located tap on the ‘Smith & Noble’ skill to select.

Note: You will be using both the Smith & Noble and Alexa apps during the linking process so be sure to keep both apps open.

⑥ Next, tap Enable to Use.

The Link Account screen will open and will provide a code.

You will need to enter this code into the Smith & Noble app.

Note: There is a time limit to enter the Alexa code into the Smith & Noble app. If the session times out, you will need to enable the skill again.

⑦ Open the Smith & Noble app.

Go to Settings and tap Online Mode then Smart Assistant.

⑧ Enter the code from the Alexa app and tap Send.

You will get a confirmation on both apps once they have been linked successfully.

Discovering Devices & Locating Scenes

Once the apps are linked, return to the Alexa app. You will now need to Discover Devices.

① Tap Discover Devices on the devices section of the Alexa App. Once your devices have been discovered, you will be able to use the devices to control the scenes set up on the Smith & Noble app.

Locating Your Scenes

① Tap on Devices at the bottom of the home screen on the Alexa app.

② Select Scenes on the Devices screen to show the list of scenes that were created in the Smith & Noble App.

To control these scenes, you will need to set up a Routine.

Note: You must have scenes set up in the Smith & Noble app in order for them to appear in the Alexa app after linking. If your scenes do not appear on the Scenes list in the Alexa app, the apps may not have linked successfully. Try to Disable and Enable the Smith & Noble skill again.

Setting Up Routines

① Return to the Home Screen on the Alexa App and tap on the menu icon.

② Select Routines from the menu.

③ Tap the ‘+’ to create a new routine.

Now follow the steps to add a name for the routine, when it will happen and what action or scene will be triggered.

④ Enter the name of the routine.

Tap the ‘+’ next to Enter Routine Name.

Type in the name of the routine then tap Next.

Note: You cannot have more than one routine with the same name.

⑤ Tap the ‘+’ next to When This Happens.

⑥ Select Voice if using voice command then type what you will say to trigger the routine. Tap Next.

If using a schedule, select Schedule then tap on At Time to select the time you would like the routine to trigger. Tap Next.

⑦ Tap the ‘+’ next to Add Action.

The scenes created on the Smith & Noble App can be found under Smart Home.

⑧ Tap Control Scene on the Smart Home screen then select the scene you want to control with this routine.

⑨ Tap Add on the confirm screen.

⑩ Save the routine and it is ready to be used.

Locating Your Routines

① Return to the Home Screen on the Alexa App and tap on the menu icon.

② Select Routines from the menu.

③ Tap Your Routines to access a list of all your routines.

Note: From the Routines screen, you can access each of your routines and can trigger or edit your existing routines.

Editing Routines

① To edit a routine, go to Your Routines. Tap on the routine you want to edit and open the Edit Routine screen.

② Edit the routine from the Edit Routinescreen or tap the dots at the top right of screen for more options.

Your routine has been edited.

Deleting Routines

① To delete a routine, go to Your Routines. Tap on the routine you want to delete and open the Edit Routine screen.

② Click on the dots at the top right of the screen.

③ Tap Delete Routine.

Your routine has been deleted.

Disabling Skill

① Tap on the menu icon at the top left corner of the screen.

② Select Skills & Games from the menu.

③ Tap on Your Skills on the Skills & Games screen to show the list of all the skills you have added to the Alexa app.

④ Locate the Smith & Noble skill and tap on it to open the skill.

⑤ Tap Disable Skill and then tap Disableon the confirmation screen.

The skill is now disabled.
