HOW TO CONDUCT A GREAT INTERVIEW:
Obviously you will have to improvise a bit here, since you are in essence conducting both
the questions and answers. You will need to be informed about the time period and
details of your subject’s life. You have some information already; any further information
must be cited in a “List of Works Consulted” page.
1. Know your subject, know the issues, know what your public (your professor) would
want to know.
2. Start your questions with words like “how” or “why” so that you don’t get “yes” or “no”
as answers.
3. You can also include “tell me more about that....”; “and what was the result of....” or
“what have others said about.....”
4. You can start with some basic biographical questions (name, when and where born,
where grew up, where else have lived, occupations, etc. MAKE SURE YOU ARE ACCURATE
WITH YOUR DETAILS!).
5. You can ask about childhood memories, especially if there were flashbacks in the film.
6. You can ask about family relationships, past and present: have they changed over the
years? What people are they close to or not? Why might this be the case?
7. Are there any regrets that they have? Anything they would like to do over or do
differently?
8. How might their life be in 2013?
