How Often Do I Need to Clean my Contact Lenses?

If you are not cleaning your contact lenses on a

regular basis, you will find that there is a gunk buildup

on the lenses and your eyes may become irritated

when you attempt to put your lenses in. Cleaning your

contacts is essential to keep dirt and debris from the

lens itself. If dirt does get on your lens and is allowed

to remain there, it can cause a tear or scratch on the

lens, which will make it difficult for you to see or it will

make your contact useless.

You need to clean your contact lenses every time you wear them. For instance, if you put them on in the morning and

then come home and take them out, you need to clean them before you close your contact case. It is essential that

you clean the lenses every single time you take them out of your eyes to disinfect them.

Properly cleaning your lenses is important as well because if you just drop them into the sterile solution and leave

them alone, the job is not getting done correctly. Below, we will go over the way you should clean your lenses. Not

everyone knows how to do it properly, so take notes and then make sure you are doing it right.

1. Grab your contact lens case and empty out any contact solution that is in the case. You cannot reuse solution so

do not place your contacts into the case of old solution. Even if you only wear your contacts for 15 minutes, you must

change out the solution in the case.

2. Make sure the interior of the contact case is clean and then add new solution to the case.

3. Remove one contact from your eye and run a steady stream of contact solution over top of it. Gently rub the

contact between your thumb and pointer for three to five seconds as the solution is poured on top.

4. Place the contact into the solution in the case and screw on or close the lid to the case and ensure that it is on

tightly.

5. Repeat steps three and four for the other contact lens.

Taking good care of your contact lenses is essential and if you are not doing it properly, you could get an eye

infection. Eye infections are caused from bacteria left on the lens and from improper cleaning. Take the time to make

sure you are cleaning your contacts correctly.
