how have you used digital technology

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Photoshop - I have learnt so much through the use of Photoshop in my product. I learnt many tools in the software to make my product look as good as possible. I have mainly learnt that Photoshop is very complex but with time you can create a very good end product. Magnetic Lasso One of the tools I used extensively is the magnetic cut out tool. I used this to cut the background out of images that I don't need, I then went around in fine detail to outline any imperfections to make sure the image looked as good as possible. The magnetic lasso allowed me to take out parts of an image that I did not like. For example, the barcode seen on the magazine is taken from another magazine. I used the magnetic lasso to cut around the white box, and then for a neater look I used the normal lasso tool in more detail. LAYERS As annoyed below, Photoshop has been the main software that has enabled me to create a good looking end product. I used layers (seen below) to change the location and overlay of the image, text and pain stokes. This enabled me to make the magazine up in many layers. The first layer is a grey background, so the rest of the magazine stands out. Layers enabled me to introduce the use of the paint brush, this allowed me to create a splash paint stoke effect behind text to create a professional retro look. The paintbrush was set to paint splatter and this creates a messy look, following the indie retro magazine I copied. Effects Photoshop layer styles are a popular way to add effects, such as drop shadows and strokes, to layers in a non-destructive way. Drop shadows Drop shadows are used on text to make it pop. the drop shadow makes the text look 3D almost creating a darker shadow like effect under the text. I used this in the main title, this means that the text jumps out the page. I saw this used often in many of the magazines I have looked at. It is a popular use in indie music magazines so I put it in my magazine to follow the trend. Stokes The Stroke effect is used to add strokes and borders to layers and shapes. It can be used to create solid-color lines, colorful gradients, as well as patterned borders. I used the stoke effect in my work to add effect around the letters.

Magnetic LassoOne of the tools I used extensively is the magnetic cut out tool.

LAYERSAs annoyed below, Photoshop has been the main software that has enabled me to create a good looking end product.

EffectsPhotoshop layer styles are a popular way to add effects, such as drop shadows and strokes, to layers in a non-destructive way.

Drop shadowsDrop shadows are used on text to make it pop. the drop shadow makes the text look 3D almost creating a darker shadow like effect under the text.

This makes them really stand out against the background. The stroke makes the mast head and cell lines pop out the page, giving a vibrant look.
