How Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
Works?
The fuel tank pressure sensor measures the positive and
negative pressure in the fuel tank.
It also measures and monitors the vapors
inside the engine.
Where it is located?
The fuel tank pressure sensor is a part of the fuel pump assembly which is mounted on top of the
tank or inside the tank.
It is also a part of the evaporative emissions system (EVAP) that reads the fuel pressure to detect evaporative leaks.
The power train control module analyses the data sent by fuel
pressure sensor and transfers exact need of fuel to engine
from the fuel pump.
How Does The Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Work ?
The fuel pressure sensor senses the internal pressure of the rail to measure the quantity of fuel remains in the fuel rail.
The data then transfored to power train control module (PCM) to calculate and release the exact amount
of fuel that is required for combustion.
What Are The Symptoms Of Fuel Pressure Sensor Failure?
When fuel pressure sensor fails, it exhibits several
symptoms like
1. Engine stalls
:- Black smoke emitting from tail pipe
:- Leaking gasoline from tail pipe
:- Vehicle starting problem
:- Vehicle runs rough with engine noise.
How To Find out the problem?
While the engine is getting scanned for any problem,
it will show an error code, if the fuel pressure sensor
is faulty.
If there is a problem with the sensor make sure to replace it
instead of repairing it.
Always make sure to find the exact configuration of a
sensor while replacing. If it won't match, it'll not perform as
expected.
Tips:- The Fuel pressure sensors always come with an identification number. So make sure to find the exact
one while replacing it.
As per owners' manual, you should replace the faulty sensor when the
vehicle starts to show the first symptom. That will save extra expenses
on engine as well as fuel rail.
