This is FIWARE!
• A framework of open source platform
components and standards to access and
manage heterogeneous context
information through open APIs
• Generic Enablers and Solutions to provide
Smart Services with the FIWARE Context
Broker as main component
• A standard for exchange of context
information: FIWARE-NGSI (Next
Generation Service Interface)
A complete Reference Architecture for Smart Solutions(applied in Smart Cities, Smart Energy, Smart AgriFood and Smart Industry)

FIWARE: Standardization for Smart Cities on a global scale
ETSI published on January
24th, 2019 “NGSI-LD” the
new Context Information
Management Standard API.
The rationale is to reinforce
the fact that this specification
leverages on the … FIWARE
NGSIv2 to incorporate the
latest advances from Linked
Data.
FIWARE Context Broker
Technology has been chosen in
2018 as new CEF (Connecting
Europe Facility) Building Block
by all European member states.

FIWARE technology fighting COVID-19
A region in a severely affected country is using the FIWARE
platform to help combat COVID-19. Context Broker is at the core
(with other open-source technology) of a monitoring / tracing /
statistical system which allows doctors and public authority of the
region to track their patients and citizens in terms of the test
results for the virus and see other information and localise their
address on a map. This application takes data from multiple
sources (data from test labs, various registry offices, work
registry) and is used for monitoring and tracing the evolution of
the virus. It was developed in 5 days by a FIWARE partner and is
active and running since beginning of March. FIWARE was used
to create a data model to integrate on the fly heterogeneous real-
time data-sets from different sources. This application allows
multiple interpolations of useful data supporting decisions in real
time as the situation evolves. It can also integrate new data
sources as necessary in a dynamic way.Fighting COVID-19

The Advantages of an Open Source Platform Standards like
FIWARE for Smart Services
▪ The basic software (Architecture and Generic Enablers) is available for
everyone, for free, forever
▪ A large open source developers community is maintaining and further
developing the basic software components
▪ A large group of global corporate companies as well as start ups are
providing smart solutions and smart services based on FIWARE technology
▪ Lowest cost of ownership for the end users / cities
▪ Standard, public, and royalty free data models and open APIs are avoiding a
’vendor-lock-in-effect‘
