EDUCATION Cut by half the number of high school students who do not graduate on time.

� $1 per week, or $52, will provide a week of comprehensive after-school academic and social skill-building programs for an elementary or middle school student.

� $2.50 per week, or $130, purchases literacy kits for 20 preschool-age children to help develop skills needed to enter school ready to learn.

� $3 per week, or $156, provides one week of high-quality preschool services for a 3-year old who is at risk of entering kindergarten without the skills needed to succeed in school.

THE CHALLENGES ARE REAL. GIVE TODAY! CONTRIBUTE TO UNITED WAY DURING YOUR WORKPLACE CAMPAIGN.

� $1 per week will fund one hour for an interpreter so that non-English speaking individuals can access medical appointments and information.

� $2 per week, or $104, will fund routine lead testing for five infants.

� $5 per week, or $260, provides dental sealants for two children or dental treatment for one child at their school in a mobile dental clinic. Untreated dental disease can threaten a child’s health, well-being and school achievement.

� $10 per week, or $520, pays for six sessions to help low-income individuals and families make healthier choices through counseling services.

� $1.60 provides one of the more than 1,600 free meals served weekly for extremely low-income families – with 85% of these families surviving on less than $10,000 annually.

� $2 per week, or $104, covers the costs for three people to take the test to certify job readiness: the National Career Readiness Certificate.

� $4 per week, or $208, covers the cost of the GED test- General Equivalency Diploma.

� $5 per week, or $260, provides counseling and mediation in an eviction action to prevent a low-income family from becoming homeless.

INCOME Cut by half the number of lower-income families who are financially unstable.

HEALTH Cut by half the number of children and adults who are unhealthy or engage in risky behavior.

Every high school dropout earns $648,000 less in lifetime earnings compared to high school graduates.

In central Iowa, 70,000 families—one in three—do not have enough income to meet their basic needs.

Iowa ranks poorly in binge drinking, smoking among youth, obesity rates and children with high levels of lead in their blood.
