CustomerThe Vaillant Group is a global market and technology leader in the fi elds of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technology. Vaillant provides eco-friendly and energy-saving solutions for heating, coo-ling and hot water. While the company is based in Remscheid, Ger-many, its energy-effi cient products and systems are sold in over 30 countries. The Vaillant sales products comprise a number of possible individual components that can be confi gured into a fi nished product, e.g. a heating system on the basis of individual customer require-ments. Qualifi ed specialized craft businesses are in charge of sales and consulting. Vaillant also provides online service information and consulting services for end customers. With sales of over 2.3 billion euros, the Vaillant Group is the second largest company in Europe in this industry.

RequirementsThe ability to map their product structures transparently is extremely important for Vaillant, so that the complexity can be clearly illustrated to sales and specialized trade. This is why Vaillant produces a compre-hensive printed price list encompassing up to 900 pages, as well as various special price lists for individual sectors in a laborious process every year. Moreover, the current product information is made avail-able via online catalogs. Since numerous price adjustments are made throughout the year, these prices are only up to date for a short period of time, particularly in the print channel. From now on, employees, branch offi ces and service providers on the international market are to be supplied with information media that are constantly updated, for example in print and online – and for international markets. Vaillant must be in the position to pass on all product information and planning material in accordance with standard procedures custom-ary in the specialized and building trades. For this reason, the proper exchange formats, classifi cations and interfaces must be supported.

Our SolutionIn the comprehensive price list, which is published once a year, the complete range of products and possible combinations are listed along with tabular overviews, numerous images (i.e. control units, connecting components and heating appliances) and technical draw-ings, as well as features and prices. The PIM system previously used by Vaillant was unable to map the complex structures and relationships of sales products and individual components. It was therefore replaced by the CONTENTSERV PIM Suite. With its highly fl exible data model, it is able to meet the nec-essary requirements and enables the quick adjustment of data via user-friendly interfaces, as well as the immediate automated updat-ing of the connected media. The product groups, types, components and variants, as well as all necessary product attributes required for Vaillant are created in PIM in the desired structure before being fi lled with the data from the old PIM. The PIM is where all product informa-tion in all languages is maintained and where translation manage-ment processes are centrally coordinated. For the management of all assigned media data, such as image data, plans, operation and installation manuals, PDF and layout templates, the MAM Suite, the CONTENTSERV Media Asset Management, is seamlessly integrated. Media data is stored media neutrally in the MAM Suite, where it is maintained in versions and assigned attri-butes and keywords, so that it can be found and fi ltered quickly. From here, the media data is linked to the products in PIM. Over 45,000 assets are currently being managed. The user always has an over-view of which data is being used where by means of where-used lists. In addition, the approval processes between service providers and staff can be documented during photo shootings via the intuitive MAM Portal interface. The integrated InBetween export from the PIM ensures an effi cient and highly automated catalog and price list creation. The user can put together the desired products for price lists and catalogs via drag and drop on dynamic, rule-based templates and then trigger the output. Full price lists, wholesale price lists, package and additional special price lists, as well as planning documents can thus be gener-ated in a fraction of the time previously required. Finished price lists can be saved as InDesign documents and fi nishing touches can be added directly in the web browser via the web-based CONTENTSERV InDesign Editor. The data output for online shop, product confi gurator and special interchange formats for e-catalogs can also be prepared centrally before being exported by a simple push of a button. The workfl ow and rights management, which is integrated centrally in CONTENTSERV, maps all processes and access rights in the system and controls all appending actions and tasks. This ensures a signifi -cant increase in effi ciency. The complete data maintenance, creation and output processes are thus facilitated and accelerated.
