WALKING ACROSS THE FIELD WITH STYLE

MOMENThe anticipation rises as thefinal names of theHomecoming court awaitto be called over theintercom. The crowd fallsinto an uproar as our newking, Jacob Damm ('17),

and queen, Maya Johnson ('17)recieve their crowns. "I was breathless", Johnsonlaughed. "That's something thathappens in the movies, not tome." Like the movies, anaudience loves a good oldfashioned underdog, and in thiscase, Fivay had one. "I voted for Maya because she wasn'texpected to win", Rebecca Futterman('17) explained. Many students, not just seniors, sharedFutterman's sentiments. "I voted for her because she was leastlikely to win and I don't believe that itshould be a popularity contest," Mia Sloan ('18) said. Even though Johnson is currently thevice president of the National Honorssociety and a dedicated member of bothMu Alpha Theta and Roh Kappa, shewasn't really considered the most popularstudent. "I kind of felt like the other girls had a

better chance of winning," Johnsonconfessed. "They're pretty well knownthroughout the school." With low expectations, you could onlyimagine the feeling she had when thenominations were anounced.

"It was all so exciting!"Johnson beamed. "I never

even thought that Iwould actually benominated." "She's such asweet person," RyanSavoldy ('17) said.

"Plus, she supportsTrump."

Boyfriend and fellowcourt member, Connor Davis ('18), wasthere to see our new queen's success firsthand. Unfortunately, due to the gradedifference, the star couple was notpermitted to walk each other down thefield. Johnson wasn't fazed by it, though. "We have trust, so honestly, we weren'treally worried about who walked withwho", Johnson chuckled. "It was anamazing experience and we're both sohappy that we got to share it with oneanother". An amazing experience it certainly wasand the rest of Fivay was happy toexperience it right along with her. By Rachel Flaherty

I wasbreathless. That'ssomething thathappens in the

movies, not to me. -Maya Johnson

('17)

"My favorite MOMENT was being able to watch the team get the last touchdown that made us win." - Caleb Hufford ('19)
