Once, a very long time ago,all chickens lived in the bush.

To protect themselvesfrom wild animals,they came up witha very clever plan.

Hace mucho tiempo, losgallos y las gallinas vivían

en la jungla. Para protegersede animales salvajes, llevaron

a cabo un plan ingenioso.

They told everyone that thered thing on their heads could

make a fire so strong it could burnthe whole bush down. So the

other animals left them alone.

Le dijeron a todos que lacosa roja en sus cabezas eracapaz de producir un fuego

tan fuerte que quemaríatoda la jungla. Así que los otros

animales los dejaron en paz.

Then rainy season came,and everything got so wet

no one was able to light a fire.Lion declared that every hen

and rooster should lightfires for everyone.

Llegó la temporada lluviosa,y llovió tanto que nadie podíaprender fuego. Así que León

ordenó que todo gallo y gallina debería prender un fuego para

cada uno de los animales.

The chickens, scared of thetruth, ran and hid but Lion

found them. They confessed theirlie, and Lion roared in anger. “YOU DARED LIE TO ME?”

He was furious!

Los pollos se escondieronpor miedo a que se conociera la verdad, pero León los encontró.Así que confesaron su mentira,

y León rugió de rabia.“¿SE ATREVIERON

A MENTIRME?”¡Estaba furioso!

The chickens ran away.They knew no animal would

forgive their lie or protectthem from Lion’s wrath,

so they ran to the one placewhere they might find shelter:

Man’s Homestead.

Los pollos corrieron. Sabían que ningún animal perdonaríasu mentira o los protegería

de la furia de León, asíque corrieron al único lugar

donde podrían encontrar refugio:La Hacienda del Hombre

Man was very understandingand allowed the chickens to

stay, so long as they promisedto regularly give him eggs.And from then on, chickens

have lived with man.

El Hombre fue muycomprensivo y les permitióquedarse siempre y cuando

los pollos prometierandarle huevos regularmente.Y desde entonces, los polloshan vivido con el hombre.
