Does religion affect peoples health?

• The way people live and what they believe does influence their life in many ways.

• Belonging and being part of a group is basic to feeling secure. Therefore belonging to a religion fills an emotional need as well as a spiritual need.

• Buddhism encourages vegetarianism and long periods of meditation. Some Buddhists chose to eat fish as well. Meditation gives time away from every day life, were you can find inner peace. Many religions require long periods of prayer, which in another way is a form of meditation.

• From the information I’ve collected, being part of a religious group is beneficial to ones emotional and physical health.

Are there negative influences?

• Religions can have a negative affect and influence on health. Some religions encourage racism, bias to other religions and even holy wars. For many years, the Catholic fought the Protestants, when they share the same god, but different rules.

• Living with anger and worry will have very negative affects on a person’s conscience.

• Fasting is, according to Free Dictionary and Wikipaedia.org “Abstain from all or some kinds of food or drink, esp. as a religious observance.”

• Some religions require excessive periods of fasting.

• An essential element of Eastern Orthodox Christianity is fasting. Fasting, In Eastern Orthodox is a way to teach self-restraint, which is the source of all good.

• In conclusion, religion can either have a negative or positive affect, but in the end, you need to make the decision for yourself, and sum up if you really believe in the practices. You always need to keep an open mind.
